Used Older Vitamix?

last modified: 11 years ago

I would like to buy a Vitamix.

We have a Ninja blender, which works great when it works, but something is always breaking - the lid breaks, the plastic pitcher cracks, etc. By now we've spent enough on replacement parts to have bought a more expensive blender. A false economy it appears.

However, I kind of get sticker shock at the Vitamix prices. Even used, they cost $300-400, and new ones are $500+.

So, my question is, how are the old Vitamix blenders with the rounded steel base and the square steel pitcher? Do they work as well as the current ones? Are they long-lasting? They are <$100 used.

Or, am I being penny wise and pound foolish again? Should I just shell out $500?
