Any roses you feel Guilty about?
Comments (24)I, too, struggle with guilt and pity for roses I've accidentally hurt in some way or shovel pruned despite their being healthy. I have experienced that many times. I cope with it with a few strategies. First, I try to find homes for them rather than shovel pruning. I've long since run through and exhausted my list of friends and neighbors who might want my cast-offs. Then I turn to Craig's List and list them as FREE. Second, I'm gradually getting thicker skin about shovel pruning the roses that are heavily disease-prone or just weaklings. I remind myself they started out as nothing more than pruning material we've all disgarded tons of. Third, the money I've spent on roses after giving away perfectly healthy roses that I just didn't love, I remind myself its just part of the cost of enjoying hobby and that it defintely is appreciated/needed by these rose nurseries. I still struggle with some twinges of regret: Roses I had mixed feelings about getting rid of. Sometimes they were great roses but too big for my limited space. Occasionally there's a rose that is great in every way--healthy, viorous, blooming machine even good bloom form, that I just don't like the color of. Winsome, St. Patrick, Pierrine all did well for me, but I could never get excited by them. The worst guilt is from occasional mistakes that resulte in my killing a rose. Oops. Particularly frustrating when its an unusual, hard to replace variety. I killed off New Yorker by over-fertiling the delicate thing repeatedly until it couldn't recover. Comments (24)I am a true fan of The Walking Dead. I even went to the place where they film it last weekend, about forty five minutes from Atlanta. Not to catch a peek at the zombies, but to push my product. It's a little historical village where they are bringing in old houses and fixing them up. They even have built brownstones and industrial lofts for a million bucks a pop. I love love love the housewifes of Beverly Hills and New York and even the goofy girls of Atlanta. .....Jane...See MoreA guilty pleasure
Comments (29)If I may be spared a moment ... ... what troubles me is that many have a short time horizon with money: spend as they go. But with little provision for funding life if/when they become disabled/retired/whatever. If you don't boss your money ... more than likely it'll boss you ... ... and often your bossing job is now ... and it's bossing comes later, if you weren't shrewd enough in these days. Just one more moment, please: few have enjoyed much of a wage increase in recent years ... ... but prices keep going up. Which means that most of us will have lower effective income next year than this. Rant/sermon complete herewith. I'd love to get a group together to discuss how to cope with those issues ... but can't figure how to recruit the crew. o j...See MoreGuilty pleasures during Isolation...2 books and 2 app games
Comments (21)I play games daily & prefer puzzles, word games & hidden object adventure games. Lately, it's mostly word games and solitaire. But I don't feel guilty, so does it still count? I play Wordscraper on FB - a Scrabble clone that allows fantastically high scores, but only works on my desktop, and WordBrain, among other things, on my phone. And lately, I've been reading everything I can find by Diana Wynne Jones that I haven't already read - mostly YA/Youth. Luckily, she was very prolific! It's total escapism into well crafted fantasy and there's always a happy ending. I also read 'How I Live Now' in 1 night after watching the movie. I was a bit surprised by how very different from each other the book and the film were, but both are very good. Something about books & stories for and about young people that provide a feeling of hopefulness... P.S. If you want a game that's not a word game, try World Of Goo. It's quite unique and really stretches your mind....See Morejkayd_il5
