Vinyl Replacement Window advice

I have a 13 yr-old colonial in northeast Ohio - we get a lot of cold, snowy weather up here. I want to replace the original construction-grade windows with better insulated ones. Quotes I have right now are for Alside Mezzo and Pella 250. I haven't heard good things on this site about those.

Thoughts on those windows or recommendations of better ones? We would like to stay at mid-range. Thanks!

Others will chime in with what may be more local to you but Okna, and Softlite are some of the better choices. Definitely stay away from either of the choices you mention though.

You are in the window fabrication capital of the US. You have your pick of the litter. Soft-Lite Elements, Sunrise Restoration, Polaris UltraWeld, Kensington Quantum II, etc.

All great options and all available where you are.

I am wondering which is the better double hung replacement window of the two mentioned above. They both look like good windows but provia offfers a 3 pane window, Soft like doesn't. I am wondering how strong the frames are between the two and how will they hold up to high winds and rain ie hurricanes, storms etc. I believe Soft lite has a good rating but cannot find it on their web site nor on the pro via's site. Is there anyone who has had any experience with these two windows who would be willing to share their info, exp? Thanks

+1 Depending on where you are in Wisconsin, I would also give HomeSealed a look-see. He posts on here pretty regularly and is a consummate pro in this business. Great products and installations.

Those window brands are typically sold thru a dealer / installer and not typically available to just anyone. They vet their dealers pretty well from my understanding.

+1. Pretty good list between the two posts above.... For comparison purposes, look to the performance ratings. U factor, shgc, air infiltration, and design pressure give great indicator of the quality of a given product
