Horrible long-term experience with Fisher Paykel single oven
Comments (11)Bicyclegirl, at this point I am not willing to spend any more money on repairs. The key electronic parts of the oven were all exchanged two years ago. Essentially it is a lemon that needs to be replaced. As far as dadoes raving reviews of FP appliances go, of course, there is a range of experiences between consumers. I have no experience with FP washing machine, dish drawer, etc., but I can say that the performance of my refrigerator is at best marginal. It simply does not cool enough. This is under-written by a recent US consumer reports that did not include the FP refrigerator in the test results because they were too pathetic (I believe July 2013 edition). And, for that matter, my cook top's ignition is on auto-pilot and will just fire away when a certain plate it on, but I am not willing to have this repaired at this point. So there you have it, 0 for 3 on FP appliances, with the oven the absolute worst....See MoreFisher Paykel Refrigerators
Comments (23)Hi, Redhead. We've had ours for a month or so, so not a long history. We like it so far, even though we are still learning where things go-- I didn't realize how ingrained the tracks in my brain were until the 20th time I found myself standing in front of an open fridge wondering if the milk went on the right door or the left one... We had almost no choice in fridges if we did not want to rip out a wall of cabinets. I had no idea that refrigerators had grown so tall in recent years, but apparently they have. The guys at the appliance store told us they sell a lot of F&P to people in Seattle with old houses for that very reason. A friend of mine did the same, only she chose the single door rather than french door. She is happy with it as well. I just hope they hold up over time-- too soon to tell....See More30 days in the life of a Fisher Paykel
Comments (34)HomeAgain, water left in a drawer or appearing later is 99% of the time caused by incorrect arrangement of the drain hoses. Check your installation and make sure the drain hoses are looped up high as possible under the sink before they connect to the plumbing. If one or both hoses sag down below the drain connection level, water from draining the sink can backflow "downhill" into the unit, or water draining from one drawer can backflow into the other. My F&P unit is 7 years 9 months old, I've never had backflow or standing water in it. No repairs of any kind thus far. mtnrdredux and others: All the DD instruction manuals I've seen up to now have advised that only powder detergent is to be used. I checked a current manual online a few mins ago. It still instructs that liquids/gels are not to be used. Tablets are not recommended but can be used (not placed in the detergent dispenser, of course), with a warning that performance may suffer. I personally would not use tablets in any dishwasher. There's no way to control the dose. There's risk the whole thing would either dissolve in the prewash and/or prerinse leaving no detergent for the main wash ... or on a shorter/low-temp cycle the tablet may not dissolve fully in the main wash, leaving detergent exposure in the rinse....See MoreQuestions Re: dish drawers, wine fridge & cabs with chickenwire
Comments (12)Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I, too, have wondered about dust getting into a cabinet that had chicken wire. But I guess, as Allison said, if you were in that cabinet frequently, getting plates, glasses, etc., dust may not build up. By the way, Allison, I've seen your kitchen before and I never tire of looking at it. It's gorgeous! I'm wondering if any cabinet manufacturer might make doors that have glass and then the chicken wire behind the glass so that you get the look, but don't have to worry about dust. So it sounds like F&P are still basically the only show in town as far as dish drawers. I remember seeing them when they first came out years ago, and liking them. I was thinking that maybe other companies had wandered into that territory by now, but as the one poster said Kitchenaid's dish drawers are still basically F&P, so I will likely just go with a single F&P if I do a full remodel. Any advice on which brands of wine fridges are the best?...See Morekitchengirl
