What do you think about my brick/tile fireplace?
Comments (6)Is that a porcelain tile on the hearth? To my eye, it's the juxtaposition of that brick and tile that is so unpleasant and jarring, not either one by itself. The brick and mortar does look pretty dirty, and the contrast between the white wall and the brick seems too harsh. Are you planning to paint the wall? In our last house, we had dark red brick that I actually liked. But the PO had painted the room a pale yellow. I chose a deep red that complemented the brick and we loved that room. Before: After: If you're planning to paint the walls, I might wait on the brick until you decide about a wall color. Walls are easy to paint and repaint, but painted brick is forever. But there is still the problem of the brick surround and tile hearth. One or the other doesn't quite seem right. Gray painted brick might work with the tile, but does it work with your furniture and decor? Is the gray tile even a shade you like?...See Morebrick look tile other than daltile union square?
Comments (1)Not sure if these are some of the expensive options you already found on line, but these are two of the ones I considered. Comments (4)I was thinking about stacked but we did that for the shower wall and want to mix it up. To each their own. I really like natural products and don't like how LVP is basically just plastic. We brought home a few samples but both agreed that we wanted to go with tile. Wood was also considered but we want something that will perform better with water since this room will have a small kitchen bar and we'll be bringing in wet sports equipment. Practically speaking, we will cover a lot of the floor with area rugs so I'm not too worried about the difference on our bodies. Mainly keen right now to see any pictures of a large room where they go with a 1/3 brick offset pattern. I'm normally pretty good at finding pics online but I'm coming up empty....See MoreWhat’s something I can use on tile that looks like German schmeer
Comments (4)Probably not. Its not thick enough, and tile also doesnt have the adhesion that brick would have. Tile should be primed with a special primer and painted with a special paint, and I dont have any idea, how you would get it to look like what you really want. German Schmear is a mortar type product, and if you try to put that on unprimered tile, it will soon just fall off. A paint wash would work temporarily, but, eventually, it would just wash off the tile too, without a full coat of special type primer. Primer would sort of defeat the purpose for the type of finish that you want....See MoreJulie Clevenger
