Opinions on American Range Performer Rangetop

I'm looking to replace our drop-in GE gas cooktop with a pro-style rangetop. I'm looking at the American Range AROBSCT636, mainly because it has high-BTU open burners (25K) and the price is reasonable at $3100. The closest competitor is the Capital Culinarian CGRT366, which is 23K BTUs and $3600. Does anyone have any experience with the American Range model? Quality/reliability, ability to simmer, high-heat cooking? Other recommendations?

A secondary question: Our drop-in is mounted on a granite countertop. We've had conflicting advice on whether it's possible to cut the existing granite for a rangetop or we need to replace the entire countertop. Any experiences with this would also be helpful. Thanks in advance.
