I never sprayed Neem on the leaves. I removed leaves that were badly infected with red blotch. All i sprayed last year (outside-- i would never use this inside) after flowering was the bulb top and soil, my aim being to nurse it along until it was time to give them a rest-- then i cut off the leaves and sprayed well. Hans has writen that the mites will never really be gone without the hot water treatment-- but i hope to keep them under control with this. I expect the 07 flowers may be fewer, due to me removing leaves in 05, but at least the bulb survived. This year her fiancee brought me a HUGE bulb, that i sprayed before i planted it -- it of course was also infected. (Hans has said every bulb from the Netherlands will be.) It is not as clean as these two are-- but better off than if i had done nothing. Now and then i just peel off small areas of bulb skin. Of course i never know the names of these varieties bought in flower markets. But now that i believe i can control the problem, i will add some named varieties to my collection. Seedlings should not be infected. Some types of fungi can pass from mother to seed because of mycelium residing in the seed coat or embryo, but in my experience this appears not happen with red blotch. Seedlings will grow up without the fungus, if they are not secondarily infected after germinating. The offset could be infected because of its close contact with the mother. It would be very easy for spores of the fungus to be transferred from the mother to offset. But my understanding is that red blotch is not systemic, so it is not passed directly through though the living connection. This is unlike mosaic virus, in which the offset is nearly certain to receive the disease directly from the mother plant. In Hippeastrum, many types of leaf damage can result in red markings, so yours may not be red blotch. If it is, however, it does not appear to be a serious case. I think most of us have red blotch in our collections, but we learn to manage it. I would be curious to hear if anyone here believes that s/he has a blotch-free collection. Maybe I am overly complacent about this. But in any case, it would do you well to try to prevent it from entering in the first place... Bill

OK. Well, now you should just wait. Do not water the bulb after the initial watering in fact I may not have watered it at all and just let it sit on top of the soil for some (a few weeks) time so you could easily lift it up to check on whether or not you had dried it properly and look for the possibility of rot which can certainly happen at this point. I do that often with bulbs that I have either trimmed the basal plate or had cut some tissue due to a rot issue and want to be sure that it had dried properly. Later, you can just add an inch or two of soil on top and once again your bulb will be buried. I see that you bud tip has turned reddish green, probably just the variety (Charisma buds have a red cast to them if I'm not mistaken) and nothing to worry about. Make sure the soil is not constantly wet. At this point dry is much better than wet. Good luck and check back when the bud starts to elongate which is most likely all that the bulb will do initially... bloom first and then think about roots and leaves. Donna☺☺

Not sure why no one else responded, but if you're still looking for answers I'll say what I would think the issue is, though pictures will get you better advice. First, note that the bulbs often have red spots as a result of physical injury. That said I would also be concerned if I had pealed off an outer layer and found a red spot inside on the bulb. I have a hard time seeing a difference between the red splotch virus and regular damage discoloration so always worry when I see any red. But so far my bulbs have been fine. The white fuzzy stuff does sound like too much moisture is being retained one way or another. Each time you repotted, did you water again? I would not have. I also wait until my pot is bone dry before watering well. I used a flat, wooden coffee stirrer. I keep it in the pot pushed all the way to the bottom. Before watering, I pull it out slowly and check if it is dry or not. If it's bone dry, I water again. I would encourage you to try again if you didn't manage to save these two. I read on here years ago that master gardeners don't reach that level until they've killed at least a thousand plants, or something like that. :-)
