Jack & Jill Bath Remodel - Layout Help Please
Comments (7)I decided to use your dimensions on graph paper to see how the space looks. If I have it correct, I have a couple of ideas. The first drawing is how your space looks now. Perhaps someone else can come up with other solutions. 2nd drawing and alternative below. Keep everything where it is. Remove shower and extend vanity and install two sinks. 3rd drawing. Remove Jack and Jill feature and put entry from hallway. Add linen cab across from toilet (allow 30 inch clearance in front of toilet). Additional storage next to toilet?. Rotate tub 90 degrees....See MoreJack & Jill
Comments (22)It sounds like a buck and doe or stag and doe the terms used in my region. There are lots of names for them depending on your region. It is traditional and expected that a young couple will likely have one. Yes money is made at these events. Often the proceeds will go to cover the meal at the wedding and other wedding costs. Left over money help the couple as they start their life together. Growing up in a rural area there were few bars so buck and does wedding receptions, bush, house, parties were what you did. Buck and does gave more people an opportunity to celebrate with the couple. Not everyone could attend the wedding or wedding reception so going to the buck and doe showed support. Example I attended school with the couple, or your a neighbor, co worker, but was not a close friend I might go to the buck and doe enjoy the party but wouldn't have attended the wedding or reception because it was usually for family and close friends. Things are changing as rules around serving alcohol and insurance costs, are making it harder to host them. People are waiting to get married and living together longer before getting married. The kind of wedding people are throwing are different too. Used to be every weekend there was a listing or two of a buck and doe in the paper, not so anymore. But as to bringing gifts nope, leave that for the wedding reception. Good luck on a door prize !...See MoreJack and Jill bathroom
Comments (25)Thanks all for the feedback. I can see there are some strong feelings regarding Jack and Jill baths. I personally don’t think of the privacy issue as much of a concern because of the two powder rooms each with their own toilet. The Jack and Jill design still appeals to me because it would require less work and money. But for resale, I could see this being an issue. I am going to ask my contractor to take a look at the two separate bathrooms idea to see if it’s feasible (from a budget and space perspective). I think it will be tight, but possible. Patricia- i totally agree that the concern over having only one bath, or hallway access is overblown. I’ve lived in many old homes without issue. But if I’m going to put money into a bathroom remodel, I want to make sure I get the most value out of it. Did you like the original idea to keep the single full bathroom? Or the full bathroom with a separate half bathroom off the master (no Jack and Jill)?...See MoreJack and Jill Bath Advice
Comments (7)Hi. If you do have more than one kid one day, you’ll be happy they each have their own sink space and you’ll want a tub. You might want to print out a couple of pieces of graph paper ( maybe making each square one foot). Draw the space on the graph paper. Get some tub, door, vanity (etc)measurements and draw them on the separate paper…. Then slide them around. We drew a lot of these trying to figure out bathrooms. Maybe the closet gets shifted or turns into a reach in closet. We went as far as drawing rooms out in chalk in the driveway and road to make sure there was room to move around....See MoreDLM2000-GW
