Powdered laundry detergent for front load washer
Comments (11)I use it myself. Love it and recommend it to friends. I'm on a well that has lots of dissolved minerals in the water. (Tastes almost like a European mineral water to drink it w/o filtering.) Seems to handle our well water fine and clothes haven't gotten dingy like some of our neighbors complain about from the minerals. I don't use chlorine bleach and seldom use oxyclean (only if there are stains on whites). FYI... Costco recently (end of last year) changed the size of the Kirkland HE box. Going against the trend for downsizing, they added 40 more loads to box and kept the price the same. Now THAT's value. As for the odor, it's never bothered me. Hint, open the box and leave the top open for a day. Use white vinegar as your fabric softener and you'll have just the right scent. I also use the new Kirkland environmentally friendly HE liquid. Comments (7)Both regular Cheer powder and Cheer Free powder are low-sudsing products. Cheer Free powder can sometimes be hard to find, but most WalMarts, KMarts and Targets sell the regular powder. Keep in mind that what works well for one user's water chemistry may not be the same for you. Buy smaller boxes to start with and begin with low dosing rates. During the experimentation phase it's better to have to rewash a load that didn't get clean enough than have suds pouring out of your machine. Use a set of measuring spoons to work out the dosage and keep good records if you want to arrive at the correct rate with the least trouble and the fewest problems. I know it feels like you can do it by eye, but long experience has taught me this is usually not so. Use a spoon and your pad and pencil and you'll get there faster. Also, keep in mind that different loads may require more, or less, product depending on the soil level, size of load, etc. So do your base-line testing on a consistent, typical load. Comments (44)Pesky1, you bring up an excellent point on saving money. Sometimes it's just plain best to go with what works best regardless of the price. Trying other stuff can be expensive and frustrating. I don't have issues with laundry so for me I go with the cheapest. I have real issues with people buying the specialized brands for 50¢-$1.50 per load and trying to tell me it's cheaper than store brands! My clothes are clean, don't smell and I'm wearing jeans from 15 years ago. All this from cheap detergent and in a 26 year old top loader that those on the laundry forum want to call "clothes shredders"! LOL Just goes to show that sometimes people get a little exaggerated in their claims and defense of what they like. Back to what I was saying. I gave up on buying "bargain brand" dish soap. Simply because Dawn & Joy do the best job for me, at a reasonable price. I've also had to throw away too much of the other stuff I tried with the intention of saving money. Again, sometimes the better stuff is the better buy. Happy bargaining everyone!...See MoreGrab Green powder detergent pods
Comments (48)@mamapinky - If I had your detergent stash I'd have fun with the try outs people send and never look to spend a penny on laundry detergent again. Alternately open a laundromat! LeB does have some kind of conditioner but so many other products do a super job. In my case, my sheets are old so I'm looking to preserve. I just sold four sets and the excellent condition helped. But for most it doesn't make much difference. You will love this story pinky -- I have a young friend with a Samsung front loader. She was asking me about expensive towels because she was going to throw hers out. They smelled horrible and musty and she couldn't get the odor out. Well, you know the story. She had no idea about laundry practices and was doing everything on cold. I sent her a small bag of Persil and told her to wash everything on hottest first, then hot. Problem solved, of course. The other day we were talking on the phone as she was looking at linen sheets. I mentioned something about LeB. 'Oh no," she said. 'I wash with Persil and hot water and I'm not changing." She also said she pays someone to iron a set of sheets for her once a week and that has made all the difference. She travels a lot for business and stays in fancy hotels. Wanted her bed at least as nice. So many of us don't travel to fancy places but it feels good to be pampered by having beds that are just as nice, if not nicer....See Morerococogurl
