Need Help with Excel Spreadsheet and Recommendations for Keyboard

I am not very good with initiating
an Excel spreadsheet, but am great with copying and pasting one. I have run
into a problem, have done research, but can't find an answer. The problem is: I
have a column with a drop-down menu box in it. The current drop-down menu
contains two selections of numbers. What I want is a drop-down box with two
selections - one being Y and one being N. The columns I selected from another
spreadsheet had the Y/N selections, but for some reason when I pasted it into
the new spreadsheet the Y/N changed to $800 each. Can any of you advise how to
change those $800s to Y and N, please.

The recommendation is need is
for a new keyboard. Currently have the Microsoft ergonomic keyboard which I
really like. However, the "painted letters" are wearing off the keys.
In fact, some of the keys no longer have letters on them. Would like
recommendations for keyboards that don't have this problem. I would guess my
keyboard is about 4-5 years old. This is the very first time I have had this
experience with a keyboard. Some of the other keyboards I had many years
without this fading away happening.

I'm not an Excel User, wish I could help you there!

I use only Logitech Keyboards and have never had a number fading problem. Not sure what kind of Keyboards are in Laptops but I've never had a problem with them either. On my Desktop Computer I have a Logitech Combo the MX5500. This is a Bluetooth Combo and the best Keyboard/Mouse Combo I've ever used. I also purchased a Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard for my Android Tablet, this keyboard (even though specifically for an Android) works with my new Acer Iconia W4-820 Windows 8.1 Tablet. I've never used the Ergonomic Keyboards but Logitech also make those. I believe the 2.4GHz Wireless MK550 is the model number of their Ergonomic Keyboard/Mouse Combo. They also have the 2.4GHz Wireless K350 Keyboard and the Wireless Trackball M570 paired together as a Combo. If it were me I would spend a little more and purchase the MX800 Keyboard/Mouse. I like the feel of the Mouse that come with the combo. It has Darkfield and can be used on almost any surface (glass, mirrors, Blue Jeans, etc...).

Melissa, Are you saying your columns don't normally have "headers," and that you would simply sort by "column A," "Column B," etc.? If so, just uncheck the box in the sort command that says to use column headers. If you do have column headers, are they just words in row 1? e.g., do the words "class," "name," etc. actually appear there?

While I can see that a spread sheet makes the info easy and quick to read, it is way to organized for me to be interested in trying to do. Just personality type I guess. I am keeping a simple diary this year. I tend to work in the garden for 2-3 hours after my morning coffee. When I come in for breakfast I record the days observations, the weather and tasks completed. Also I am recording for the first time how much money I spend (yikes!) It makes it easy to check on "when did I last fertilize the Dahlias?" etc. Maybe this winter when I am pining away for spring, I'll turn the data into spread sheets. I definitely need to make garden maps. This year there were a number of plants that I couldn't remember where they were, or even that they existed!

Hi Stevie, Thanks for that. I had checked out Tatiana's database before, but couldn't figure out how to make the queries that I was hoping for. All of the data views are just lists by categories of various sorts. I kind of got excited when just now stumbled upon the ***NEW Multi-category Search***. Unfortunately, it isn't really user friendly. I was hoping that there would be categories that I could select from a pull-down in each of the boxes. However, I also just now noticed the link to the seed catalog (Tatiana's TOMATObase Seed Catalog - http://tatianastomatobase.com/seed-catalog/html/), which does have some good filters to use, albeit not too many attributes to choose from. It will suffice for what I'm trying to accomplish. What I'm hoping to ultimately find is a database that I can query and have an option to either view the data in columns and rows (a spreadsheet view per se) or be able to export the query results into a spreadsheet file or a text-delimited file of some sort, that I could then import into Excel so I can do my own filtering and sorting. Do you know of anything like that online for vegetable, particularly tomato, growing data? I'm a pretty good Googler, but I haven't been able to find what I am seeking. Below is a link to a spreadsheet that I put together using tomato data from Wikipedia. Stacey; you should always expect that you could do what you are asking for with Excel. The simple way with what you already had was just to highlight your graph (select it) and then cut it and then paste it to the second sheet. That is in fact probably the best way to do such a thing because it allows you to immediately see if the graph you made is really what you wanted. Then move it away from the data. However, instead you could have gone to the second sheet and asked for a graph and then bounced back to the first sheet to highlight the data and it would then appear in the new graph. The first method is much better in this case, but people who work with multiple sheets just reach into various sheets (even on different workbooks) to grab the cells that they need by typing '=' and then moving to the needed sheet and highlighting the data. That is how Excel works. BTW, I'm not clear on why you felt it necessary to view the graph on a separate sheet. If the graph was too big and hiding the data, just select the graph and shrink it by pushing a corner closer to another edge.

Bugspop: I used to have a Logitech keyboard and mouse that I liked very well; the ergonomic replaced it. Perhaps it is just the Microsoft keyboards that have the fading/erasing problem - this is the first Microsoft keyboard I have had. Thanks for the recommendations.

Zep: I have bookmarked the Excel forum. Never knew it existed. Thank you, thank you.

I'm a Logitech keyboard fan. I love the typing response so if I have to replace a keyboard...I try to find the same Logitech model. But I've noticed lately that the letters on each key are decals. Long gone are the indented/scribed letter keyboards and I miss them. A cost cutting factor by the manufacturer...no doubt. I do a lot of writing so the decal keys wear thin very quickly. I found some self-adhesive letters at Staples that are small enough to stick on the Logitech key faces. They're normally used for art layout paste up work but are ideal for my keyboard and this particularly annoying problem. Even though I'm a very rapid touch typist...I still need those visual aids. :-)

I consider myself to be an Excel expert but I essentially work with standard classic methods. I also find that as Excel has upgraded and has to deal with newer external programs, that I can't always even get started. However, I suspect that if you haven't gotten help at the link above, that I can probably answer your question. However, I actually didn't really understand your question. Are you talking about two columns that are actually the n and yth excel columns, or are the y and n names a line and slope formula, or some division or something else totally?

And if I happened to guess correctly: was the problem simply that you somehow selected 'paste values' rather than 'paste formulas', or paste everything which might be expected?
