Help with Excel

I need help with creating a graph in Excel on a different Excel worksheet from the sheet that contains the data. I created an Excel spreadsheet with my daily weight. That is, I weigh myself every day and have entered the information in columns - a different column for each month. I created a graph using this data, so that I could see my weight fluctuations for each month. However, the graph was on the same worksheet as the data. This meant that the area for entering my data was much smaller, being taken up with the graph. I would like the graph to be on a different worksheet but to be connected with the data, so that if I update my weight record, the graph will change accordingly. I hope someone can help with this. Stacey; you should always expect that you could do what you are asking for with Excel. The simple way with what you already had was just to highlight your graph (select it) and then cut it and then paste it to the second sheet. That is in fact probably the best way to do such a thing because it allows you to immediately see if the graph you made is really what you wanted. Then move it away from the data. However, instead you could have gone to the second sheet and asked for a graph and then bounced back to the first sheet to highlight the data and it would then appear in the new graph. The first method is much better in this case, but people who work with multiple sheets just reach into various sheets (even on different workbooks) to grab the cells that they need by typing '=' and then moving to the needed sheet and highlighting the data. That is how Excel works.

BTW, I'm not clear on why you felt it necessary to view the graph on a separate sheet. If the graph was too big and hiding the data, just select the graph and shrink it by pushing a corner closer to another edge.

Trying to match whites is a very difficult proposition and not always the best to do. It's amazing how layering whites actually adds interest and contrast, which you actually need. We have divinity white cabinets from Medallion, and our trim is a creamy white, very similar, but not perfect. The white subways are crackled and bevelled, they add dimension, depth and a bit of shine. Have fun with it and chose the whites that suit you eye and work well together, whether they are on the grey side or creamy side, you'll need to decide. Cheers!

To get a keyboard with long lasting lettering, choose one whose keys have the nomenclature molded in as a depressions on the key tops. After molding, these depressions are "ink filled" and are resistant to wipe-off. If some of the ink gets lifted, these can be refilled, Sadly, most keyboards available today have smooth top keys with the lettering printed on, most likely with an ink jet printer. This is a cost reduction because most of the keys are physically the same with different printed characters. The ink eventually gets worn off on the most used keys. On my keyboard, its the "a, s, and e" keys.

I'm not an Excel User, wish I could help you there! I use only Logitech Keyboards and have never had a number fading problem. Not sure what kind of Keyboards are in Laptops but I've never had a problem with them either. On my Desktop Computer I have a Logitech Combo the MX5500. This is a Bluetooth Combo and the best Keyboard/Mouse Combo I've ever used. I also purchased a Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard for my Android Tablet, this keyboard (even though specifically for an Android) works with my new Acer Iconia W4-820 Windows 8.1 Tablet. I've never used the Ergonomic Keyboards but Logitech also make those. I believe the 2.4GHz Wireless MK550 is the model number of their Ergonomic Keyboard/Mouse Combo. They also have the 2.4GHz Wireless K350 Keyboard and the Wireless Trackball M570 paired together as a Combo. If it were me I would spend a little more and purchase the MX800 Keyboard/Mouse. I like the feel of the Mouse that come with the combo. It has Darkfield and can be used on almost any surface (glass, mirrors, Blue Jeans, etc...).

Perhaps you could create a new spreadsheet which includes the extended dates you desire, then copy/paste the existing data from one to the other?

Yep, fingers crossed. I'm not an Excel/spreadsheet expert but I did do one to help me plan my next backpack trip, which I never get around to taking.

It has a summary sheet that includes a graph using data pulled from the other sheets. So I imagine what you're trying to do can be done.

I appreciate this additional information. I am going to experiment with this, and am hoping that the graph will respond to any changes in the data. This happened when my graph was on the same page as the data. As I entered my weight into the data each day, the graph would change to reflect this.

Or, just select the chart and drag and drop to another section of the sheet, either below or to the right of the data. It isn't fixed to the location where it was created.

Thank you all for these great suggestions. Before I posted this query, I had been experimenting with my data and messed everything up. So now I will create a new Excel spreadsheet to start with a clean slate, and use some of the ideas presented here. Another question - although I have been using computers for many years, I am puzzled as to how I would know that I have successfully selected a graph. I am accustomed to selected material looking highlighted or otherwise having a distinct appearance. When I tried to select my graph, all I saw was a heavier border than usual. How is a selected graph supposed to look?

Assuming you have selected the whole graph, the edge will have that heavier border, AND you should see those little circles or dots at the corners and one in between on each side that are for grabbing and expanding or shrinking the graph.

Also: if I had made your data, I would likely have created only two columns; the first with months and the second with weights (unless you were doing multiple weights per month. If you didn't already realize, you can create all months by just typing Jan and Feb and then selecting the pair and then drag the little square in the corner to fill out the other months. That also works for other common patterns AND you can create your own special patterns like names of all friends, workers etc by adding them to special lists.

Thank you, Chas. Yes, I would be recording multiple weights per month, since I weigh myself every day. I'm learning a lot about Excel from the helpful people on the Computer forum and I'm hoping to have the time tomorrow to try some of them out.

An additional note - I left my graph on the same Excel sheet as my data, thanks to the suggestion that I could simply drag it over so that it doesn't overlap the data. I hadn't realized that this was a possibility. Thank you again!
