Can 90 degree pipes be snaked? What do master plumbers say?
Comments (8)David, Ahh, I think I now understand that you were not trying to distinguish between DWV fittings and standard fittings, but rather between normal DWV fittings and long-sweep (or long-turn) DWV fittings. Is that right? If so, you may ignore my previous post. Your post threw me, as I would not have referred to standard DWV fittings as "small radius"; that term connotes standard supply fittings to me....See MoreDistance to DWV?
Comments (3)Hmmm... Don't know which code were under. We're in Sebec in Central Maine. It's a new build. I had the Plumbing guy install the under slab plumbing for a slab level bathroom and a kitchen in the walkout basement. He's got the main stack plus a separate vent headed upstairs and capped off for now. My guess is the vent is only used to vent these fixture arms. So there will be a bathroom and kitchen on the first floor and a bathroom and kitchen on the second floor and a 1/2 bath and kitchenette on the top floor....See MoreWater Pipes keep clogging up
Comments (14)Umm. I would guess that OSHA would be interested in these pics. People are injured or die all of the time when the sides of a hole cave in and trap the worker. They suffocate because the dirt around them prevents them from inhaling - even if their head is above ground. They also suffer oxygen deprivation to the limbs because blood flow is cut off. To prevent that, various methods are used including a metal structure lowered into the hole to prevent it from collapsing while the worker is below grade. Trenches over 5 feet deep must be supported in such a manner. To be down 12 feet with no protection is major stupidity and the supervisor should be called out on this. Really - make an issue of it... Send the photos to OSHA and the head of the department. The next guy in the hole may not be so lucky. Education and enforcement is the only way not to end up with dead workers. Comments (6)melissastar, you need to distinguish where the bends are. 1. in the vertical part of your whole drain system. 2. in the horizontal part. 3. in the horizontal part that is defined as "trap arm" which is between the washer standpipe's P-trap and the place where venting is first connected. This might only be a couple inches long, but it is a different segment with its own rules. Sometimes people try to route this pipe around obstacles. Is this your case? Three different kinds of constraints. I'm assuming you have a standpipe. I read this about 90 degree bends: "There are three in short order as the pipe comes up from the basement to the first floor" so I'll guess you were referring to the vertical part. Is this the correct reading? I'm not a plumber, not a plumbing inspector, and not a plumbing instructor. Nor do I act as one on the internet or on TV shows. Hope this helps....See Morerandy427
