I don't know how much help I'll be, because I prefer the color of your island over espresso. I love white kitchens (I have one), but I love the warmth your island and floor bring to the space. I don't know about gray, but perhaps from the deeper tones in your backsplash.

Island color seems off to me. I agree. I also like the idea of grey-brown. Need to transition between the floor and the countertop. Taupe. Very sophisticated and contemporary.

Here an example of what going bold with blue can look like.

I'd have to see a closer up shot of your backsplash to make sure you could tie blue in with it.

I definitely can't go blue and I really like very monochromatic colors. I like to add color with accessories.

If go with revere pewter, I think it would look better 50% darker rather then 50% lighter. Beautiful kitchen!

I meant maybe going a bit darker, but same tone? I just think that maybe the 50% lighter revere pewter might be too light to read as a color. Afraid it might look plain beige or off white. Kwim??? Maybe get a sample and try it out?

If want light and airy, I think it would be good to try and match to your white cabs in that case.

To be sure, I think you really need to invest in samples and foamboard and try different color in your kitchen and in your light.

I recently designed and installed an all white kitchen with a gray island. It really popped. We also did gray antique on the white doors. Will have pics to post tomorrow when the granite goes in. Can't wait to see it all come together.

Suzy - If you go to a professional paint store, they can match it better good if you clean the door up.

I agree with S &S cabinets. Gray would be a much better look than revere pewter. As beautiful as revere pewter is, as an island, I think it would be too muddy. I saw many gorgeous white kitchens with gray/slate/bluish islands on Houzz. Gray would go nicely with your backsplash and island pendants too.

The kitchen is open to great room which is also revere pewter with dark brown and pops of green. Here is a pic

I also think it is gorgeous as is but I have a very similar granite to you and just painted my island Sherwin Williams Stone Lion. It is stunning with the granite!

Yep, I would not to a lighter version of your walls. Darker grey, or one of the dark blues shown :)

the way it is now is nice because it connects to your dark couch in the adjacent room. you will lose that if painted another color. what about a dark brown espresso color?

I feel like it's too dark. Floors are dark, backsplash is dark.

Agree to either take the darkest grey from the backsplash or go with green. i can't really properly see the colors of your BS and counter.

BM makes a gray with green pigment in it.Get a color pot and paint a piece of foam board put it up and see if you like it .Keep it up for a full day to see how the color changes with day light to evening.

i do like that taos taupe. thanks for the recommendation. will sample a lot of colors before i decide.

You have already said you won't do a color but I would SOOOO put a pop of color on that island...probably green since it's my favorite color. I think it would bring some life and energy into your space.

My backsplash tile looks much more brown in that pic, but it reads gray on the wall.

I like Galveston Gray. Looks nice and warm.

What goes best with the counters and the BS?

Ok, one more question...I am annoyed by the unbalanced look of not having the molding go to the front/end of the bottom of the island. Would it be difficult to add a piece of molding and how would I hide the seam?

I painted my island SW Brainstorm Bronze. Here is a photo. It is a dark gray green brown color depending on the light.

You can also see it in the far back in the butler's pantry on the bottom cabs. It reads darker in that space as the light is not shining directly on it.

I like ak's island color. Originally I said I liked the existing stain color. I still do, but that was before I saw the adjoining space. There's a lot of dark brown in there. I think a warm, gray/brown leaning a bit green would look so nice in your kitchen. You have a lot of white in there already.

the mockup is cool! can you do one using galveston gray from ben moore? how much do you think it will cost to have the pros come and paint this?

I snagged a swatch of the Gal Gray and added it to your island. Sorry it is just a block of color. I would suggest getting a sample and putting it on cardboard and holding it up. I am not sure regarding cost to paint. I painted by entire island by myself.
