Need help choosing appliances for new house
Comments (4)cheriei On matching fridge-freezer pairs, there have been numbers of threads. Sometimes, you just need some vocabulary and model numbers to help with a search. You could start with these two threads on major brand models: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/appl/msg012059109995.html http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/appl/msg0217454513977.html?16 Talking about a "pro-style" range and "affordable appliances" may be a bit of an oxymoron. Prices for 30-inch model all-gas pro-style ranges generally start at around $3500 and go way up from there. Even higher if you want a six-burner 36" wide model. The only exception is the NXR which runs about $1999 for a 30" model (Costco.com sometimes runs sales at $1799). But, the NXR is like buying a small, imported 4-wheel-drive pick-up truck with a manual transmission and manual hubs -- great vehicle for some people but not others. Maybe you might want to consider, say, a GE Cafe range -- some pro-style looks, though sleeker and with digital conveniences like Sabbath modes and a bigger oven than the NXR. But why buy a range? You will be getting double-wall ovens. A rangetop, rather than a range would be more budget friendly. And that leads to another suggestion: try focusing on what you want to do with the stove (or range top) and how you want to use it and what you are willing to put up with to get what you want. Do you want or need a 36" wide six-burner cooktop? If not, then a 30" model will be more budget friendly. Lots of threads on cooktops here, too. So maybe, when you get your choices narrowed, you can try starting a narrower thread on the models you are specifically interested in. As a practical matter, you may get more and better feedback if you do that. If you want "pro-style" then you could check out the Blue Star rangetops. Others brands have been recommended here, as well. One thing I did not see on your list is a rangehood. Sorry to add to your research woes, but that will likely be a practical necessity. Lots of threads on them, too, plus you should talk to your builder about "make-up air" (for which "MUA" is the frequently used acronym.) There have been a number of recent threads on wine fridges. You might also try searching at chowhound and e-gullet, too. Same thing for drawer mircrowaves and ice makers. Can't help with trash compactors and don't recall seeing any recent threads on them here. I'd try the kitchens forum....See MoreHelp! Building a house (Pulte) and have to choose appliances
Comments (1)If you don't need full size ovens as secondary one's you can consider speed or steam ovens or even a convection microwave. They will give you another option for an oven, though in a smaller format that you might be able to work in to the mix....See Morehelp I have many rooms I need to paint...need help choosing color
Comments (2)hermustangs, if you'll read the "new to GW" thread below on this page (or if it's left this page by the time you read this, search for it) you'll find explicit instructions on how to post photos; very easy to do. I think you'll get many more responses if you include photos. I'm not good enough with colors personally to try to answer your questions without seeing the rooms. Good luck!...See MoreNeed Help on Choosing Appliances
Comments (8)I just went through this process and after doing my homework and reading on this site here is what I chose: Miele Master Chef Oven - we really wanted the rotisserie feature and just liked it the best overall since I am a baker. Miele Warming Drawer - they are all about the same in price and I really liked the open sides on this one. LG Microwave - only one that comes with a melt setting which I will use a lot. We did not get the built in version because it seemed silly to pay so much more when you get the same exact oven. There is a company called MicroTrim that will custom make the trim you need and they did a great job. We are keeping the current top of the line Kitchen Aid Dishwasher that was already in the kitchen in this home we bought. It does a better job than the previous two Bosch dishwashers we have owned. We chose the Thermador Freedom Column Refrigerator and Freezer since we have to split the location. I know there are a lot of fans of Sub Zero but my experience with them has not been good and the existing one in this home makes ice on the back wall of the refrigerator side and the ice is usually a clumped mess in the ice maker. We kept the Dacor smooth cook top as it works great. We do an unusual confederation on our oven stack with the oven at the top, microwave in the middle and warming drawer at the bottom. This works great because the heavy items are always in the oven plus it's easy to see what's happening when I am using it. Right now we are trying to replace our granite which is difficult because the existing cabinets are a high gloss soft green with grey blue undertones. I would not have chosen them but they are way too expensive and too well fitted out inside to replace. Trying to decided between Golden Lightening and Fantasy Black granite. Also love Sea Pearl but it is very hard to find in the number of slabs needed. Hope this helsp....See MoreAngie Tsiaras
