I think I am officially a wacko composter now...
Comments (6)I guess this relates to being a wacko composter, but after reading about the benefits of urine added to compost, I've been occasionally adding my watered down urine to the compost bin. They say it's pure nitrogen and a great activator for the compost. The people I work with are refusing to eat anything out of my garden, lol! More for me I guess. I like that idea seraki, steal the neighbors garbage for compost! lol....See MoreThe Official: AZ Passiflora addicts thread
Comments (3)Is the Incense getting enough sunlight in summer? If catepillars are desimating your plants, you may have to pick them off everyday until plant can rebound. I love butterflies but they can do a number on your vine. You are right germination of seeds is very sparse and random. but the seeds online are very cheap. You only need a few of each variety to germinate. I have a very simple cheap set up in my tool shed. I have cheap flourescent 48" lights, heat pads hooked up to a heat thermometer, and those cheap plastic covered seedling trays. The trick is once the seedlings get a second set of leaves take them out of trays then acclimate them in bright window or AZ room, for a couple a weeks then outside with only morning sun in Spring. I've learned the hardway leaving seedlings in seedling trays to long and they grow week stems fall over and die. A. Mom keep us posted on your P. Frederick. I know they are a little more cold sensitive then some hardy P. vines. Lol, bird got your sole fruit. Iam sure you will get a lot more fruit next season when your plant is more established. It may die back all the way to ground in Winter but will hopefully come back in Spring like most Passi's....See MoreQuestion on Meyer Lemon rooted cutting
Comments (2)You can encourage the tree to grow up by pruning the side shoots off the trunk and leaving only the ones that grow up. Time is really the best way to increase the trunk diameter, and it can go even faster if you can put the tree in the ground. Just keep the roots moist and in the shade for a few weeks and you should be fine....See MoreMeyer Lemon-
Comments (2)Hello All! I guess I am officially addicted to growing citrus now. I have just acquired a Meyer Lemon that is basically a stick about 11" tall with four leaves - it's a long story. It is not grafted. I say it does not have a graft because there were several sticks coming up from the "soil" when I rescued it rather than one rootstock. The others were dead. I teased apart the roots while gently washing and got the roots for this one. The pot it was rescued from did have the nursery tag stating it is a Meyer. I potted it in 5:1:1 and am keeping it out of full sun because it is on shaky ground. The roots did not look bad when I potted it. There was one branch with a small lemon on it but I pruned it off because I don't think that the "tree" could support that fruit. What do I do now? I will use Foliage Pro and vinegar and it is in a fast draining mix. I would like to grow a long straigt main trunk and then encourage growth up top. I did stake it and it is straight. How can I encourage growth in height and diameter and help keep this pitiful stick alive. ANY tips would be appreciated. Kim...See MoreKadie
