This Site Copies What We Post on GW??
Comments (24)Welcome to the 21st Century! Some thoughts on everyone's comments... 1. Real Names? That is just silly...usernames have to be unique...as soon as the 2nd John or Mary tried to use those as usernames there was a problem. And if they did allow it...there would be endless "Which John are you?" or "Which Mary said that?" 2. Creepy factor...yes at first it may be creepy to be able to Google yourself...but just how many people ACTUALLY GOOGLE YOU? Probably just you. 3. Protect yourself in all things techy AND NOT TECHY TOO... identity theft happens more when somebody goes through your trashcan than from the Internet. Or from people clicking on SPAM emails telling them about discount Viagra, their lottery winnings in Liberia, and how much girls in some third world country want to "meet you". FLorida actually has a site that will help you learn more about protecting yourself online: http://www.safeflorida.net/safesurf 4. Photos - be careful. Make sure there are no identifiers about where you live...house numbers, car license plates, etc. And no pics of minor children unless site is secure. And monitor your children too. 5 A. It's called Web 2.0 and YOU WERE TIME MAGAZINE; Person of the Year for 2006 ( http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,20061225,00.html) This wonderful year allows ALL OF US to participate and share our learning and opinions with the world. The world gets smaller every day because of it. 5 B. I graduated HS in 1981 and yesterday, my HS Principal became one of my FaceBook friends...what a wonderful world where that can happen...that I can tell him and others how they influenced the person I have become. As with anything...be safe AND enjoy! Tam the Nerd Here is a link that might be useful: SafeFlorida.Net...See More'Goodby' note from a friend
Comments (14)Quilly,my DH is a GYN/Oncologist and I've been there for him at times when his heart was broken over a patient he lost because Cancer won the battle she was so valiantly fighting. OMG, does he feel the loss, even after all these many years of dealing with the reality that not all patients beat the disease. I've had close neighbors, friends and family that also struggled and lost. I mourned over their deaths, but somehow this sadness is different. I guess it's because of my friend's bravery in accepting that her days are numbered and her ability to actually share the status of her condition. I intend to connect more often with people that once were a close part of my life and that somehow have slipped away. My friend opened my eyes and made me aware that time slips away when we're not paying attention. Let me tell you about one friend who truly "showed grace" under fire. She was crusty, abrasive, could be overly critical at times and yet had a heart of gold. Her siblings and parents were in England; her boys were away at college and her husband was working long hours. I was a SAHM and so I took her to Dr.'s appointments, grocery store and stayed with her after Chemo treatments when she was sick as a dog. I expected her to rant against the Gods that had inflicted her with this disease. She did not. I asked her once if she wasn't angry at always feeling sick and feeling horrific pain and the fact she would die young and leave 4 young sons and her husband and parents. (Please don't think the conversation was cruel. We had the kind of relationship that accepted these kinds of discussions.) June surprised me when she answered that she was not angry because bad things happen to everybody at one time or another and she didn't think she was special or deserved to be in an elite group of "untouchables". She got sicker and sicker and never complained. In my eyes, that was true courage and showed there was much more to June than the crusty exterior people knew. Lynn, I'm happy my post encouraged you to send the email. We just never know what our words will lead to. I am blessed to have had Charlotte in my life. I'm thankful she gave me the opportunity to tell her how important her friendship has been to me. Without her email I would have felt the weight of "Unfinished" business....See MoreHeartbroken in Florida
Comments (26)No, I do not know the person who started this thread. And it's not about "liking" what you say. It's about the fact that alot of people come to these forums to vent and ask advice from un-biased people, and I don't understand why people have to respond so negatively. If you don't agree w/the post that is fine and your own choice, but stating your opinions so rudely isn't neccessary. I can feel for the OP because my sister in law is the same way w/my mom. She will do anything to be a b!+ch just cuz she likes to cause trouble, nothing my mom does is ever good enough...etc, etc. No one here knows these people personally enough to pass judgement. If she is in the same situation as MY mother then nothing she did at the hospital would've been good enough, the DIL STILL would've found something to compain and whine about. I just think that if someone disagrees w/a post it could be stated w/a little more compassion instead of making the person feel even worse. JMO...See MoreMy heart is heavy, I feel heartbroken
Comments (69)Thanks for bringing this thread back up to the front page, and for your sympathy and kind words. It's been over a month and I still miss her terribly. Her picture is still on my desktop on my computer and when I see it half of me wants to smile, the other half cry. :-) I've had alot of furkids/fursisters in my lifetime so I can only hope they're all keeping each other company now! Samkaren, I got your email but I've been so sick for the last 3 days this is the first I've really gotten on my computer. Thank you so much for sending me the note and for your nice thoughts....See MoreUser
