Rain in July! A rarity in California

It's really raining,, measurable rain. I have lived here for 31 years and never experienced rain in July, this is most unusual and most welcome.
There are T-storms happening in various locations, but none here so far.
No worry about wildfires as long as the wet stuff is around.

I went to the store and saw people wearing shorts and rain-boots and some are wearing rain-coats and flip-flops.
Everybody has a smile - well, the Wine people don't smile, the timing of the rain is not so good for the grapes.

That sounds so good, lilo. It has been a cool and overcast day here, and it's the first in months. Enjoy the rain.

Lilo, I am happy for you that your area has gotten rain. If it were possible, I would have shared some of what we've gotten over the last six weeks. We've had more than we need, and while lawns, flowers, and gardens are lush and green, we could use a little of your sunshine. The weather pattern for the rest of July is more of the same. Mother Nature doesn't do things in moderation, does she?

I know, my peppers are looking a little droopy with all the rain, and I think I have EB on my tomatoes. We've had about 2.5" so far (about normal, maybe a little over) this month (would have been more but the 3 days of rain we did have were light rain, even though they predicted heavy). Just wish it were spaced out a little more so we don't get the flash floods. Can't complain though, June 2013 was a washout, July a heat wave and 2012 the whole summer was a drought. Lots of places still in drought. So I'll take this moderate weather though the daily T-storms we've had the past few days can leave ;-)

Sounds like our summer weather. The main concern with tons of water is the soil drainage and the soil minerals depletion. Ours grow 100% outside under no protection. We get daily thunderstorms that dumps tons of rain on the adeniums, plumerias, prickly pears, echeverias and other plants that do not like to sit in water. The soils minerals deplete quickly due to the water so they need to be replenished. Use time released fertilizer time such as a 7-7-7 and supplement with a liquid once a month during the heavy rain season such as Dyna-Grow Tekt to strengthen the plant.

Happy Friday.... I have not been around to open Jeannes Christmas in July package, which arrived a few days ago. And she also included my poetry prize....very cool! And here are the 12 days of Christmas from Jeanne.....how fun! *Christmas card and inside a 12 days of Christmas word search game *Partridge in a Pear Tree.....Jeanne sent Pear preserves and a mug mat (made by Jeanne....love it) and in the pocket of the mug mat is American Classic Tea. The tea is the only tea grown in the U.S. and is grown at the Charleston Tea plantation in SC. *Turtle Doves...a white bird with a clip so I can attach to my Christmas tree, a gift ect *French Hens...Puffy Pancake recipe which uses eggs....a family favorite. *Calling Birds....CD with Christmas songs "Home For The Holidays"...the birds not only call, they sing....LOL! *Golden Rings...."Extra Golden" California Poppy Seeds *Geese a Laying....an artificial egg and the egg layed "Interesting and Amazing Information On Geese"...................a got educated on Geese! *Swans a Swimming.....a white wash cloth which reminded Jeanne of a swan.....and it is a soft one too! *Maids a Milking.....Milky Way candy bars *Ladies Dancing....They are dancing to the music on the CD....LOL! *Lords a leaping...Star package tie ons.....leaping to reach the stars. *Pipers Piping....A bookmark with Jeannes horse Piper.....How cool!!! *Pipers Piping and Drummers Drumming.....A steno pad....and on the cover of the pad are pipers piping and drummers drumming..... Jeanne, thank you so much! I absoloutley love my 12 days of Christmas......very, very clever. And thank you for my prize! Your surgery was on Tuesday. Thoughts and prayers......be well. Annie

ugh, I live right on the coast of Northern Cal and once it warms up inland it will be foggy here all day every day for the most part. Does cut down on the need to water as the trees and shrubs do a good job of capturing the moisture and channeling it to their root zones, but it can be oppressive especially after a rainier than usual year. NOT COMPLAINING, just explaining! Have been plenty of rain and showers in the forecast this past week but not much action on the coast besides that thunderstorm the beginning of the week which was one of the noisiest I have heard. A friend was driving to Sacramento during the worst of it and he was exhausted by the time they arrived, but so amped he could not sleep.

It's chilly and overcast right now (6:20) but prediction is for mostly sunny later on, temps to be in the eighties all week, that is nice, no heatwave lurking around the corner. Looks like a pleasant week for man and beast.

Good thing that you don't see a heat wave coming, and that you don't have to worry about wild fires at this time.
We had another cool and overcast day, and it is welcome. I wish we would get some rain, but I don't see any in the forecast.

Another pleasant day here in the valley. Cool overcast morning with sunshine in the afternoon. It is a real treat after the non winter and hot spring.

You are right, WG2, it's been so pleasant. And to look at this week's forcast, the hottest day is still in the low 90's, I can live with that. My tomatoes just love it.

We lucked out again this morning, just a couple of showers. 10 miles east they had 2" of rain in 1 hour, my son in Louisville is without power, floodwater invaded a power station. Like mawheel, I gladly would send you californians some of our largess.

We've had a few wonderful days and nights, In the 70ties during the days and 60ties at night. It is July, but it feels like spring. It is warming up again, "they" say it will go into the 90ties by mid week

As lilo, said about the rain in in her neck of the woods, this is unusual for my neighborhood.

Are we going into a new normal?
