Rain, rain and more rain! (How's your Spring weather?)
Comments (15)They said they were seeing a few 90's in Texas a few posts above.....well Oklahoma has now also seen their first 90's this last weekend as well. So the warming trend is moving north. I have some trees stuck up north waiting on a truck and I expressed my concewrns to the grower that I was getting past my comfort zone on planting time for conifers. Like most folks in the north he told me not to worry because the trees were still dormant due to the cold weather they were still in. What I try to get most northerners to realize is it's the shock factor that worries us.......not just the fact this tree will have to endure so much more heat that it has been used to throughout the summer, but nothing turns a tree into a crispy critter faster than for it to come from nice cool cloudy growing conditions and drop it right in the middle of a heat wave of 90 - 100 degree temps and full sun. mark...See MoreRain, Rain and more Rain
Comments (9)I'll echo the saying, "be careful what you ask for!". Thanks, that is exactly what is happening! Two months of dry and now we are in a wet pattern. Good rain chances 6 of the next 8 days. It is pouring outside as I type this. I was hoping to miss it tonight, try to lightly work up some ground and get some fall crops (turnips, rutabegas, daikon radish, green onions, and more carrots planted), but that is out the window. With late fall plantings, everyday is critical! I figure I have about 10-14 days or it will be too late. I will plant them when I can and hope. I am planning on putting up low tunnels over them and harvest as long as I can. Maybe I can get fall transplants started tomorrow instead, after I wade through the mud to pick melons! Comments (8)Well, lucky you, Glenda! As Carol said, we got a little dribble from Mother Nature the other day, but nothing much. Sure hope we get some more this winter. We need it, our trees and shrubs need it....See MoreRAIN RAIN AND MORE RAIN
Comments (0)I have so much painting and wood rot repair to do - however NOTHING is drying out - or it might start to, and then we get another massive dump. What do pro's do - is there anything you can do besides sit and wait? Have thought about hanging a giant 20 x 30 tarp on the one side of the house in most need of work (where rain tends to hit it) but would that trap moisture IN as much as it keeps it out??????...See Moretim45z10
