Comments (22)Hawai'i is a plant growers paradise. Like Thailand, we can grow a great variety of plants in our climate. We have many fantastic adenium breeders and collectors here and have amassed a nice collection of plants. I have this one lady friend who has produced year after year of fine clones. I am trying to get her to sell seeds online. She has had a few hurdles but once things settle and she learns how to use a computer for her sales, she should be up and running. I do not sell plants, sorry. I am a die hard collector. I propagate and grow, but just for me. When you start growing plants for sale, you tend to grow more than what you're really interested in just for the sake of being able to sell.I just like plants that are attractive to me. I will share my growing secrets as time goes on....See MoreLooking for Bamboo (dead) in South Florida
Comments (3)Chris, maybe Richard at Tropical Bamboo (Loxahatchee)could help you? He has acres of Bamboo, containered and field-planted, and I assume at some point they trim it? His nursery is gorgeous, and if you haven't been there, you owe yourself a visit(G). I'll be there Wednesday, and will ask for you if you like. I have 6 Bamboo varieties, but none are in need of a trim. I've seen bamboo arbors at Bushel Stop, with outrageous price tags!! Ouch!! They sure are beautiful though.. Comments (13)Kadie, I hope you do get to add one or more of these to your collection. With the seed you are cultivating, perhaps several will turn out variegated! There were 2 variegated older seedlings at Wild Bill's in Florida but Ellen, the daughter of Bill did not want to part with them, so I have been on somewhat of a mission to find one since then. Ellen told me that sometimes you will find the variegation on plants that produce red flowers. Rick, thank you for lending your expertise in identifying the Black Arabicum. Too bad your seeds didn't take, these are quite special. I knew there was something unique about this plant that I could not put my finger on. It must be the darker caudex, it is captivating. And I love the furry feeling of the leaves. I am on quite a roll here lately with the new acquisitions. I need to slow down and remember that I have hundreds of seedlings that will need more space and tending to, especially as they are growing larger. The Dorset Horn, of course does not take up much space! ;) I was pretty impressed with the hype and excitement around Adeniums at the show today. The show was predominently cacti, palms, and pachypodium, with a few Adenium sprinkled in. I could have stayed all day gazing at the staged Bonsai, but my 17 year old son doesn't have the patience for it. Tracy...See MoreBreeder in S. Florida? Lucky Sumo Nursery
Comments (5)When I was there in July they were building a waterfall in the back by the tiki bar. They were in the process of setting it up for guests of the nursery to lounge during their visit. The place is huge! We had to use a golf cart to get to the rear of the place and to haul our plants back to pay for them. I think we bought 10 plants on our trip there which is documented in this thread. Of all the nurseries we hit on that visit, Lucky Sumo was by far the best. If you do have the opportunity please take photos and post them on the forum. It was about a scorching 100 degrees the day we went and so I didn't get photos of the nursery like I wanted to. As for adeniumrose.com, I believe the owner's name is Mike. I do not know him personally, but perhaps another member does. Can't wait to see what you get from Lucky Sumo!
