If you're sure that's what you want, Look here for huge compact fluorescents. They have up to 105 watt CFs in conventional Edison base and up to 200 watt (!) in mogul base. That is not "200 watt equivalent," these are real 200 watt CFs at 12,000 lumens (!). (And warning, neither compact nor cheap!) Disclaimer: I have no business relationship with these folks and haven't even traded with them, so this is not a recommendation. I just happened to run across these some time ago.

I've been thinking...what I really want, is the courage to follow my gut. I made the mistake of telling someone about the plan to paint the entryway pink, and I got that "Oh..." Then I found fabric I like for some chairs. For the pink entry. Looked at the swatch for a few days, decided it was the perfect thing, drove the 25 miles back to the fabric store, carefully measured it out with the chair pattern, bought it, brought it home, and my parting thought when I went to bed was that it would never work, the cats would shred it, it was the wrong weave, the wrong color, and would look like a hot mess. Today, not so much.

A lot depends on the style of the room. The one above leans more traditional. We have a vaulted tray ceiling in DH's office and the room is very traditional with lots of cherry wood and leather, so we put in a chandelier. Depending on ceiling height, you may be able to use a semi flush mount which I think are far more attractive than flush mounts. The ceiling fixtures that I hate are the ones that look like a woman's breast. DH has no trouble with them (wonder why) but I think they are awful. You also want to think about how much light you will need for the size of the room. That will determine how many and what size bulbs you need. Like it or not, for bright light, energy efficiency from a single fixture, you can't beat fluorescent lighting....in my craft room I have 3 large ones. But that room was designed all around function first.

If it is a warm area, you might consider a small flush-mount fan with a light. Otherwise, one of my favorite fixtures is the Basil by Alexa Hampton sold by Circa Lighting from Visual Comfort & Co. It comes in several sizes. Many other companies make versions of this shape, but the finishes from Visual Comfort & Co. are outstanding. There are so many different styles of lights that it is hard to comment. What you need to decide first is what type of bulb you want. Halogens are being phased out everywhere. You can still find many incandescent fixtures on the market in the USA, but their energy consumption is higher than fluorescent or LED. Some people with propensity to headaches find that the newer fluorescent bulbs give them fewer headaches than LED because the flicker rate is slower. However, many of the older fluorescent bulbs are being phased out, so you would need to take care to get a fixture that houses the newer bulbs if you go that direction. LED lighting can be softened by a full diffuser shade while others have exposed bulbs. It depends a lot on your style, how much you want to spend, and what quality of light you are seeking.
