Need Help with Possible Cherry Tree Disease and Insect Identification

Two problems with my 15 year old cherry.

First is what appears to be a systemic problem in the bark (light colored protrusions throughout). Was concerned this might be Black Knot.

There were also 3 separate colonies of a strange insect on the tree bark that appear to look like small springs, for lack of a better description (and this was after a heavy rain). I blew them off with the hose, but alas, I'd like to know what they were.

Images attached. Help with identification of both, treatment (and whether I need a tree service), and general information appreciated.

added cropped versions of the images bc houzz shrunk them down when posted:
