Groundcover for under trees?

last modified: 8 years ago

I've taken out more of the grass in my backyard..you can see the new
line where the light green grass meets the dry area. The area is
dappled shade but in late afternoon there is full sun (for 1-2 hours or less) along the edge
where grass meets dry area. What would be moderately spreading and
drought tolerant to put in this area? In the second picture looking towards the house you
can see some liriope muscati which does well there. Also a wisteria
volunteer. The ground is rather hard and I will
be mulching with a combination of wood chips and leaves that fall from
the trees.

Thanks for any guidance for my yard. I'm in California zone 9.
