What colors are in the rug? What if you used a tone that was a couple shades lighter than the harvest brown?

I would go dramatic with a dark brown or black.

Or the same color as the ceiling.

lukkiirish, couple of shades lighter of harvest brown is raffia creme, which is a yellowish white, I think that would look too washed out. The rug is jewel tone colors, mostly burgandy, gold with black. Here is a closer picture of the rug.

Then I'd do it in a dark brown…and I'd paint the ceiling THAT color too. The up-lighting from your chandelier would create a gorgeous glow on the chocolate brown ceiling.

I like the white for your home.

I'm not liking real dark as in Beverly's last picture. I think burgundy could look OK if you have burgundy in other areas on the main floor. How about a few shades darker than the wall color?

I'm not feeling the darker colors. I'd stick with white.

Since Beverly kindly photoshopped, thank you so much, I dont care for the dark brown or blacks. My initial thought was to go burgandy, I do have pops of that throughout the house. I have fabric switches, I am trying also to figure out drapery color for the masterbed room. I put the swatch on the floor against the door and irl it looks quite nice, Its the darker red against the door, not the lighter one on the floor. Dont know if whole door was burgandy if that would be too much, Beverly could you photoshop that for me :).

Do you want to go monochromatic or dramatic? Is there a colour that is in both your rug and your wall pictures that would work? Or is the frame colour in your rug as well that might work?
I would look at coordinating your door with the rug and the pictures unless you go with something completely different (black, yellow, navy blue, etc) that acts as a backdrop to the foyer and the dining room which I believe is also in your field of vision to the left.

Here is your darker fabric color on the door. A wood finish on the door would also work.

blfenton, I do want to coordinate the colors instead of adding a new color, that's why I was thinking of burgandy. I know reds are a hard color to work with so I hesitate. The other thing I thought maybe to stay white, I can somehow color match the white from the shutters so at least they look the same.

Beverly, cant image this site with you and your talents, thanks so much. I am liking the burgandy tones, especially the wood tone. The door is a fibreglass woodgrain embossed door. Believe or not when we moved in, it was stained, but a dark walnut brown which looked terrible with the mahogany wood tones in the house. So, I decided I would paint it out white. Can I stain over the white paint now?

Looking at the photoshoppped doors, I'd leave it white. Of course, the photoshopping got rid of the panels, which makes it different, but I think at least with white, people will find the exit. Plus it goes with your shutters, trim, and window above.

Colored interior front doors

I have raffia creme all over my first floor, love the color but you're right it would look washed out. I would probably leave it white too. The darker colors all seem to be too over powering.

thanks nosoccermom, I think I may have to leave it white. Dont really care for the painted ones, after looking at the photoshop pictures, they are a great help. I really liked Beverly's idea of a wood stain, but upon reading on line how much work and maybe damage I could cause the fibreglass by trying to strip it, I dont dare. I am going to try to color match the white of the shutters.

You'd have to check with a professional, but you might be able to Gel Stain over paint, maybe not white paint as a base color, but something darker. There may be a label on the edge of your door that identifies the manufacturer. They might be able to supply info.

Do not paint the trim a color. There is no reasonable way to stop the color after you start.

I don't care for the painted trim either, it just doesn't look right.

Please keep it all white! The other options shown above just look like you are trying to do something "different" just for the sake of doing something different. I would repaint the door with a better white to match the shutters, if that is what really bothers you.

Thanks everyone, I will be keeping it white. Went to the paint store to get some white paint chips to see if I can match the shutter white.
