What you're describing is classic symptom of obstructed dryer vent. First thing I'd do is verify that it is clear and free-flowing. Very common problem. Easy, but messy, to check and clean. I'd be surprised if the washer spin is different. I, too, have the Duet pair and in my three years have seen no difference.

No they aren't stacked. In the beginning they were quiet, not so much anymore! Sounds like an airport in here when they are in the spin cycle, and shakes the kitchen table! They are downstairs, cannot imagine them upstairs. Looking at the large Elux- 4.4 cu feet, don't know the color yet, debating between Stainless, Red, or classic White. Model number varies between colors, but ewfls70J, they are on the Electrolux website. I also saw a good review of them in this forum! I like quiet, in a house of loud children. Other than that I've had no problems with the Duets. Just remember to keep the door open after each cycle, and crack open the soap dispenser, and run the clean wash cycle every so often then you will not have smell or mold issues.

Hi all, Just an update on this. My replacement controller and the dryer are running just fine with the addition of the fan. And I should mention I added ONE OTHER MOD which is even cheaper and easier to reduce the excess heat in the top of the cabinet. I put a 1 inch metal hole plug in the hole at the top of the duct on the back side of the dryer near the opening where the heated air enters the drying drum. It makes no sense to let heated air coming up the duct from the heating coils and heating manifold partially leak out into the cabinet instead of all go into the drum to dry the clothes. The cabinet runs cooler still, too. If anyone else pulls their Duet apart, please let me know if Whirlpool just forgot to put the plug in mine, or if this is a design flaw. I called Whirlpool to ASK ... and the company people that answer the phones apparently aren't allowed to talk to anyone that knows anything about the design of the firm's appliances. Whirlpool couldn't tell me if there was supposed to be a hole plug in the hole or not. They'd be glad to help me get an authorized repairman out though. Oh well... I guess that means my choice is to use my own common sense or pay $100 or so just to find out if Whirlpool forgot to put the hole plug in or not, huh? Of course, that's presuming the repairman would actually know whether there was supposed to be a hole plug there or not, which is a major presumption in my book based on my experience trying to get information out of Whirlpool. If it isn't on the 8-page booklet in the dryer cabinet, they don't have a clue.

garyboun - I actually accomplished what I wanted and I love it. My washer /dryer are underneath my cabinets with pocket doors that open and slide back in. It required wider cabinets but I love that they are hidden when not in use. Since I used pocket doors, I had to go wider so each appliance has double pocket doors. Because the dryer is not vented it's important to keep doors open when using. It's great during the winter because it heats the room up. Let me clean up the laundry room a bit and I'll show you pics. In order to accomplish the planning of my cabinets, I did find a washer/dryer in a showroom and took pictures so that I could plan where to put my plugs and drain hoses. I have those pics as well if you want them. The only thing that is a bit tricky is that the detergent fill-bin is located at the top, so you will need to be careful about your countertop overhang. My total depth of the cabinets with the w/d is 27" including countertop. Cabinet depth is 26 1/2" so very minimal overhang. There's definitely room in the back for it to go back further but I wanted to play it safe. At minimum I think the cabinet depth would need to be 25" with doors that overlay on top versus inset. As far as leaving door open to dry out, it's also necessary to wipe down the rubber flange of excess water so mold doesn't set in. But I typically leave door open when I'm done with laundry on both w/d for a bit before closing them up for the day. These are in my back door entry so it's really nice to shut them away.
