It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here today. We have had some really warm weather and lots of rain. Last evening we went to our church to watch Alyssa and friends put on their Vacation Bible School program. The kids were all so cute and did so well. Afterward we had punch and snacks in the basement.

The cherries are ripe and I am hoping Amber will pick them and I will pit and clean and freeze them and bake a pie too. Does anyone else have cherries this time of year? The mulberries are ripe but I don't do anything with those. Alyssa likes to pick and eat them. The black raspberries are just getting a few ripe here and there and then the picking begins! I hope they do well this year as past years have not yielded many at all here.

My days are kept busy. I still carry meals upstairs each day to my husband since his stroke. He goes to work a half day each Saturday with some of the kids.

What have the rest of you been keeping busy with? I hope wherever you are, you are having a very nice weekend.

We are in the midst of a rainy patch here, just north of Chicago. For two nights we've had thunderstorms blowing through. I can't get the wooden staff on our flag out of its holder beside our front door! (Trying to rig a light to shine on it until things dry out.)

After a foggy morning, the sun is peeking through now (9:30 a.m.). Everything is growing like crazy. The lilacs are finished. The serviceberry fruit is almost ripe -- robins are waiting! The climbing hydrangea, swamp magnolia and honeysuckle are blooming.

I'm glad to read that Marilyn Sue's DH is getting out of the house (and her hair) for at least a few hours a week. I like having my house to myself for a few hours now and then when DH attends lectures or works with the HS kids through the school's Grand Times volunteer program. (This week he helped judge sophomore English students' video productions of scenes from MacBeth. HS is much more interesting today than when he and I attended!)

I remember the home made cherry pies that my mother made....we had 2 fruit trees in our backyard, and the other was a pear tree, and a grape vine.
My mother used to say "how about a pie tonight, go pick some cherries".

I've never seen bedbugs except for the pictures on the web. Kath, I hope you had no hitchhikers. You certainly took plenty of precautions, I bet you'll be fine. One of the conference rooms at work had been infested with them. The managers wisely selected a different room for meetings for about a month. The exterminators were in on the day they were first seen. Speaking of bugs, today, I am finishing up debugging the tropicals that spend summer outside in prep for bringing them in for winter. We are supposed to get into the thirties Friday and Saturday evening. I used to always use a systemic, but this year I am trying something that I saw on Facebook. I am submerging the pots and as much foliage as possible in soapy water for half an hour. I am wiping all parts that cannot be submerged with the same soapy water, then rinsing when I pull them out. In theory, this is a great idea, but I have been using more and more lightweight foam pots to save my back. Foam pots float :-) I've been settling for allowing them to float sort of sideways and rotating the pot so all areas are submerged at some point for 30 minutes. We'll see if this helps with fungus gnats. I only have the 4 biggest left to do today, I got 8 smaller pots yesterday.

Paint: I would wait on selecting a color until you have your furniture and accessories chosen. The present color (in picture anyway) feels washed out and a creamy white would be more modern and crisp. - Built in‘s/tv location: with the width on both sides of fireplace being different, you’ll have to configure bookcases accordingly, if going that route. Suggest holding off on making a mantle change until you figure out wall - try to envision whole wall in your decisions Really like look below - Seating layout: really like your inspiration picture and as per the layout, centre to fireplace. Update on the day: The living room is so clean. The floor looks fantastic, the furniture is polished, fabrics are washed, cords are corralled. I’m even up to date on the Murdaugh trial, having listened to the Netflix doc at the same time. The poor kitty ventured out once the vacuuming stopped. I haven’t done much in there ever since DH moved his office home…noise, bustle, commentary, meals, etc. But now it looks so good, the dining room next door to it wants a spa day, too! For now, I’m going to collapse in a clean chair with a glass of wine and watch something entertaining.

After working Monday-Friday this week, I normally work 3 days a week, I am doing nothing! We did grocery shop this morning & did a load of laundry-oh I ironed also. Well will give our dog a bath & will clean & scrub Calico's litter box. Will fix an early supper & that will be it. Happy weekend everyone!

I should be home planting seeds, as I still have some varieties to put in their first planting ... but just had to come check out how you folks are doing (and check stocks to see whether I'm up or down, this week).

My Mom was sick from when I was six and Grandma and the hired lady weren't heavily into making pies ...

... but we had a black cherry tree in our yard ... and we boys knew how to climb!

Nice respite from chores and summer farm work (hired farmhands had gone off to war).

It rains every day, but my fruit trees are barely surviving, not producing.

I joined a gym last week. Now I go to Yoga, Zumba, tried TRX-Support training. While buying new workout clothes yesterday I was stopped by a lady wanting to buy what I had on. She asked if I could direct her to the correct store. :0) I told her she was in it, only 5 years too late! lol

I showed her what I was buying, showed her another one and we both walked out happy!

It's awfully nice to see your "Good Morning" post, Marilyn Sue. :) I sure do love the cherries but we don't have cold enough weather here anymore for enough chill hours, so I have to buy them as I do most of our fruit. My mom always had raspberries and lots of them, but my visits never seemed to coincide with harvest time, darn it. I'm enjoying blueberries more than I used to; we have a couple of bushes but the squirrels and birds have had more than we.

I miss the black raspberries in the back yard patch at my parents' home in central Illinois. I always ate them fresh, in a bowl with sugar and milk or cream. So delicious. Out here in the west, people always think I mean blackberries. They have never seen a black raspberry. No one even sells them.

I remember the cherry and pudding pies that were so delicious at our school cafeteria. The were one crust pies and the bottom was filled mostly with a cooked vanilla pudding with cherries from pie filling scattered on top. I think it came with a dollop of whipped cream. So good.

I miss sour cherries from the Midwest and East Coast where I grew up. I loved pies made from them. Here in California we have sweet Bing cherries, which are OK for eating but don't like them for baking. They are coming in now as well as blackberries, boysenberries, red raspberries and strawberries.

We have been having lots of cool foggy morning weather with sun in the afternoon. The highs have been in the 70's to just barely 80, which I love for working outside. Around 5PM the fog comes in like a blanket from the ocean and cools everything down to 50's to 60's. The joy of living so close to the coast, don't need AC here.
