New HVAC system

Sirs,
We have decided upon a local Trane dealership to replace our existing system. The reasons that we are replacing sooner than most would (existing system was mfg in 2006) are multiple (including a less than good quality installation) but we have decided to start fresh. (House is 1 year new to us.)

Here is what we are requesting. (The dealer is performing all calcs as requested, and is also reviewing the builder's construction plans.)

Type of Dwelling: Residential wood frame construction; approximately 2,300 square feet conditioned space; two-story with attic and crawlspace; built late 2007.

Current HVAC system: Carrier “Infinity 96” FA natural gas; Carrier Comfort Series central A/C.

Project Goal
Provide IAQ including heat, air-conditioning, dehumidification, filtration and fresh air replacement, with zoning as needed for main living areas (to be determined).

All equipment and installation shall be accomplished based upon load calculations per ACCA manual(s) J, S and D.

Equipment Desired:
Heating: Trane XC95m Natural Gas Furnace.

Filtration: Lennox PureAir

Air Conditioning: Trane XV18 Air conditioner

Dehumidification: Ultra-Aire 98H; Note:The system shall be configured to provide 60-100 CFM of fresh air to the fresh air intake of the dehumidifier.

Germicidal Lights: Sanuvox Saber Genius U.V. Germicidal Lights, 2 each for A/C coil.
Sanuvox Saber Genius U.V. Lamp shall be used for dehumidifier coil.

What makes a homeowner give up on an Infinty furnace less than 10 yrs old? System has Infinity controller?

Why a Lennox PureAir in a Trane system?

If you plan on zoning areas of your home off one system, I still believe Carrier/Bryant offers the best integrated zoning system and components under one umbrella.

It would seem you are going to extraordinary efforts on IAQ and protection of evap coil. Any special reason?

Thanks for the reply. The area is Moscow Idaho. The system does not have the infinity controller, and the installation is very unprofessional with air leaks at the furnace, a cobbed together media box that whistles, wiring that would pass no sane inspection. The list goes on.

We want to start with a clean slate, and with a dealer that has an excellent reputation ( which this Trane dealer does) .

We think this will be our "last" house, and so we expect to obtain maximum roi in the expenditure.

I have read that dealer/install is

a , if not the most important factor, and that is a prime driver of this renovation.

The Lennox Pureair does not have the ozone production issues that Aprilair and Cleaneffects do. (Asthma)

The uv coil lights to prevent biofilm.

They operate at 19 SEER and usually qualify for a bunch of rebates. No problems if installed correctly. This is really a misnomer because it applies to ANY equipment. That is the problem that can't be ignored. I am an opponent of the mini split for the simple reason they are more or less single room air conditioners. In other words you are going to need space on a wall in every room to mount the cooling/ heating head. (more equipment) The mini splits could all go down at the same time... this depends on the design of the system. They make multi head capable condensers... meaning multiple cooling heating heads connect to one condenser. If the condenser goes down, there is no cooling in any head. If you put in multiple heads and multiple condensers for those heads then that is even more equipment to maintain. The only way yours are still functioning is that they have been maintained. Maintenance is not free and if you don't know how to do it, you are more likely to damage the system. Look at the facts you'll see I am right. If you save anything up front in a mini split you WILL pay for it at some point in the future. More equipment = more cost. No way around that and repairs will be much more complex. What are the current sizes of the furnace and AC condenser. I am skeptical you need a 97% efficiency 100K furnace and only a 2.5 ton condenser. The contractor B quote is incomplete in that has missing equipment model numbers and sizes. Natural gas and electric rates are very high in the NYC area. Over sized and under sized equipment will waste energy. Correct sizing and a good contractor are the most important things.

Trane Perfect Fit Filter cabinet

I would take a look at Trane's Perfect Fit cabinet. Link attached.

There are 3 components to a successful new installation.

Good equipment, the actual install, and the most overlooked and disregarded a good ductwork system properly sized and designed, minimal leaks, with good insulation qualities.
