Is it possible to get good citrus fruit in a climate that snows?

Hello all

I read recently that citrus that have the foliage fall off or become in bad condition during winter will have poor or even no fruit, pretty much forever. They said only remedy was greenhouse type winter treatment. Is this true?

I bought many citrus trees last year with the goal of edible fruit, and wintered them outdoors, untouched. They pulled through, although leaves were in rough shape come spring. It drops a bit below freezing here, and we do get a bit of snow everyyear. It's no good for most plants growth from October-March. I was told to wrap the trees up in a cloth, compressing the branches, every winter.

There's a big citrus area about 2 hours away on the coast, I recon because they don't get the cold the same way we do up in the mountains here. I'm wondering if I'm inviting frustration by attempting to coddle these trees?
