Am I remembering right that the Lenox Tan is a little deeper in tone? I can't find my color card for that. But I do think Shaker Beige is a pretty light color, one for a softly beige look rather than warmth. For that very reason, I recommended it to my boss who is scared of color. How deep do you dare to go? Red

That sounds strange to me too. I have used Lenox Tan in a couple of different houses and it has never looked olive or anything resembling green in any of my rooms under a lot of different lighting conditions. Lenox Tan is my all time favorite BM color. I hope you find the color you are looking for. I know it can be frustrating.

peytonroad - I would say the MT looks slightly better with the fireplace. But, the Shaker Beige looks ok too. I agree that the fireplace is a big determining factor. Especially since I really love the brick. I want to show it off. Last night was the first night with the Shaker Beige sample on the wall and I did not like it at night at all. Too dark and muddy looking. So, at the moment I am leaning toward the MT. My biggest concern is that it will look too close to the baby turtle in the kitchen. I don't want it to appear as though it's the same color looking slightly different because of the light. I am having such a hard time undersanding why the MT looks so green in my house. I know that lighting makes a big difference, but even without any artificial light, it looks green. The family room gets so much light from all the windows that the lights are never on during the day. Yet it still looks green. I also put a sample up in the master bathroom (also getting painted) and it looks green there too. Yet, almost everyone says it's not green and the pictures I've seen on line and in the Pottery Barn catalog are not green at all. Maybe when it is on all the walls it will look tan? Or more green?

Hate to say it, but I vote for the gut rehab if you can afford it. You would love it if you could pick everything out for yourself and update it. It's easy to splurge a bit on bathrooms because we don't need much in the way of volume of materials. So you could put in a really gorgeous slate floor, for instance. But if this is an "antique" house maybe this looks right for the house and is part of its charm? That's up to you. My inclination is if it's old subway tile it's priceless, so I'd work with it... but this... mmmm... not so much, sorry. If you decide to leave it for now, how about picking up some paint color chips at the store and holding them up to the picture to see how they look to you? Another choice is to beadboard over the wall tile, then redo your floor. You'd probably want to re-tile behind the tub in something neutral. You can also have a tub professionally resurfaced, and a bathroom remodel place can advise about the cost. It's undoubtedly cheaper than a new tub as I've seen them do it on HGTV's "Designed to Sell." You might want to take a photo to the hardware store and ask what they see as your possibilities and approximate costs for each thing. One word of warning... when you dig into old bathrooms there is often rot in the walls and floor from years of water, and mold. Subflooring may need to be replaced as well as wallboard. I'd just expect that. That's an added headache, but it's also a good reason to go for the gut rehab, to make sure it's structurally sound and mold-free.
