hmmm, that is really, really strange. My lenox tan is like coffee icecream, with a little extra coffee in it. Daytime or under the lights. I just have a few table lamps and the lighting is not very bright at all. It is nowhere near green, not even a little. I love it.

elenkao: do you think there is a chance I got a bad sample jar? Does paint go bad? The color you describe is the color on the chip and the color I wanted.

I have Lenox Tan in three very differently lit rooms, and mine sounds like the description elenkao gave. Maybe it was a bad sample.

My sister in law, who has wonderful taste, also chose Lenox Tan and thought it was going to be the "perfect" color for most of the main living space in her large open plan house with very high ceilings. She never sampled, because my mom used this very same paint in her home and it looks lovely. Well, the painter got started and wouldn't you know, it looked just awful in my sister in law's place. She mentioned "olive" as well--so I don't think you necessarily got a bad sample...it probably depends on a lot of things. The deal breaker for my sister in law was she said SHE looked awful next to the color! :) She's very very fair skinned, blonde hair...and much of her decorating is in very light colors--it was a very bad match.
I'm having a senior moment and can't recall what her replacement color was--I'll ask her and get back to you.

Maybe paint a sample on a scrap of something, let it dry and compare to the paint chip. If it's still way different, take it back and show the store what's up.

That sounds strange to me too. I have used Lenox Tan in a couple of different houses and it has never looked olive or anything resembling green in any of my rooms under a lot of different lighting conditions. Lenox Tan is my all time favorite BM color.

I hope you find the color you are looking for. I know it can be frustrating.

Berf: I will be very interested in what your SIL ended up using instead of Lenox tan. I was kind of glad to hear someone else has had a similar experience. At least I'm not crazy...or at least not for this reason! :o) I wonder what is causing the paint to turn colors like that?

I used it in my home office. It definitely has green undertones. At night, under the lamps it looks olive green to me.

Did you get it at a Ben Moore place or somewhere else? I have LT throughout my house and I had it mixed at Lowe's. They had two different formulas in their system for this color, and one was def more tan than the other.

I got it at a Ben Moore store.

I bought my LT at the BM store. My bathroom has no windows. I'd say it has a slight greenish undertone but I don't "see" green when I look at it.

Yours is the beautiful color I was hoping for, monicakm! I'm going to try Bradstreet Beige, Powell Buff and Wilmington Tan and see how they look.

We have Lenox Tan in several rooms. It looks very beigey in most rooms, but in our great room, where we have an accent wall in F&B Dauphin, it definitely looks more olivey.

I have that problem a lot - paint can look so different on different walls. Have you looked at Bleeker Beige? Definitely no green to it.

My sister in-law (after her own Lenox Tan debacle) ended up going with Urban Putty by Sherwin Williams.

I have an interior design acquaintance who swears by Bleeker Beige for a lot of her projects--she works in a primarily neutral palette.
