i would bet.. HD plays internet middle man ... and would wonder if they were shipped directly from the grower ... check the box.. all literature.. tags.. any buried tags .. see if you cant glean a growers name ... back in the day.. i used to get multiple shipments on one order.. from whatever source ... and then i figured out.. they were coming from different growers ... directly ... go figure... looks like a great plant ... i like the way you opened the box.. to see how they shipped it ... ken

That is great. I did the same thing this winter. I did not do them in a pot I have a raised garden bed that I use as a nursery holding area that I have built the soil up with compost and a bag of Miracle Gro garden soil. 2 Purple Smoke bushes 1 Black Lace Sambucus 1 Purple Sandcherry Bush 4 Rose Glow Barberry 2 Golden Barberry 4 Variegated Wiegela Bushes 3 Rhododendrons All of these were done with pieces that I was clipping to shape the bushes. I did not think it would work but I figured they were going to be trashed I may as well see if they will root. To my amazement everything rooted.

Mitanoff - mine's in a pot, but it's outside right now. It's been there since mid May, and it'll stay there untill the first frost warning in the fall. I leave it right next to the window it spends the winter in, so that the change in light levels isn't as severe as it would be if I summered the Hibiscus in a slightly sunnier spot. A five gallon pot sounds a bit big for a Hibiscus that's only two and a half feet tall - it might cause it to be too wet and develop root rot. Here's a pic of mine (well most of it anyway, there's a bit on the top I didn't get into the photo)- I left my flip-flops next to the pot for some scale: Mine always loses leaves during the winter, and it seems to finish losing the rest of the previous years leaves right about now. It's already put out tons of new leaves, so you can't really tell the old ones are going. By September it will be about twice as bushy as what you see now. I could really use a slightly bigger pot, but then my plant would get bigger - it's at the maximum size I have room for, so I don't want that. I do root prune the plant every couple of years though (in the spring) - I could do it every year, but it's too big of a task for me to deal with every year! It makes a huge difference. I cut the plant out of the pot, lay it on it's side, and remove as much soil as I can (having the plant in soil with a lot of perlite makes this much easier). I remove many of the bigger roots, and about a quarter of the other smaller ones. I repot it with fresh soil and away it goes. This isn't a root pruning year, and I can see it's not nearly as quick to fill out, nor does it have as many flowers as in the years I do it. I also fertilize it quite heavily once May rolls around. Everyones herbs look so nice. I like the natural unfussy look of herbs. I have a big ole rosemary growing next to the AC unit and dryer vent. Talk about an inhospitable place for a plant. I got it years ago from Home Depot. It looks like a bush. I use it alot in cooking. I have Mexican tarragon in my herb garden too. I love the little yellow flowers. Then there is rue. What beautiful little silver leaves. Both those are easy to grow. I have had them for years. I have no luck with chives. I have tried them in several places. So I use the tops of onions or bunching onions as I would chives. Still I would like to have some decent chives. If there is a secret to growing it I would like to know. Also no luck with nasturtiums. I think the seeds I used were old. Arugula seems very popular lately. I bought it once thinking I had spinach. What a surprise. Tasted like skunk. :( It is in a salad mix I planted and I pull it up when I see it. Lion's ear looks so neat. Anita gave me a clipping to root but it didn't make it. Is it easy to start from seed? Or where would be a place in Orlando that I could buy it?
