Who Knew? Decorative Container Cuttings Rooted Over Winter!

This last December, inspired by GWers, I had alot of fun creating 2 decorative outdoor urns for the winter. Into each of my 2 cast iron urns I set a big pot of dirt (to anchor them) and then stuck in it lots of cuttings, watered, and sprayed the rhodo branches w/ anti-dessicant. See the red stems and yellow stems(Cornus alba Ivory Halo and Acer negundo Winter Lightning)? Well, we had a LOT of snow cover on those urns this winter and come March, they were still looking pretty good, so I let them stay til spring. A week ago, I went out to dismantle them but lo and behold, the cornus and acer cutting were all sprouting!! I know i took off bottom branches so these would fit tightly in the pots, but I had no idea they would survive/root/sprout like the ridiculously-easy-to-propagate willow genus. Hooray!!!
