Comments (3)You're in Zone 6? Pansies in containers there may be iffy. In zones 7 and higher, they do just fine even if the temps drop down to around 20o. I imagine you have much colder weather than that. The violas (johnny-jump-ups) are even more cold hardy than the larger "pansies."...See Morehow to over winter containers

Tender plants in huge pots and bringing them into my back room to overwinter Pots became so heavy and stuff like that My solution, well my husband and my solution, was to buy a place in Florida. I have enjoyed it so much and learned a completely new style of gardening. Comments (1)I have done this recently with my Caladium, both times I did not water at all during dormancy, and the new growth shoot appeared without water in Spring. The first time I kept it inside at my office (very dry AC environment), so nothing below 65. Comments (2)I've stored carrots a couple times in lightly moist sand in 5 gallon buckets and they were in great shape through at least mid February when we used the last of them. I just alternated a layer of sand, carrots, sand, carrots etc. It's best to keep the bucket in the garage where it stays in the 40s but above freezing. This year I just coined, blanched, and froze all but about 3 lbs that we stored in the fridge and were used before Christmas....See More- 12 years ago
