Who knew it would get that big?

I hear many stories about plants that have faired poorly or died completely. Occassionly, it is just the oposite or as I phrased it, Who knew it would get that big?

I have two examples. Two years ago I bought 3 tiny rugosa type roses for a dollar each. Two remain in their one gallon pots and have barely grown at all. The third was planted in the ground and is now 5 feet high and 12 feet across. It will definitely have to be moved. Who knew it would get that big?

The second plant has a name that at least hints at something interesting, Inula Magnifica. This was also a small plant that came in a one gallon container. It was planted about 10 feet from a Gunnera plant as it was supposed to like similar conditions. I was concerned when it died back to the ground in the winter. I need not have worried. It actually grew faster than the gunnera. It is over 7 feet high and just starting to flower. Who knew it would get that big?

What has surprised you with it's speed of growth?

Cheers,

MG
