Clothes shopping size frustrations (Rant alert!)
Comments (9)Have had the same experience with purchasing clothes all within the same manufacturer and size, being completely differently sized than the tag. However, if you take the time to read the Made In " " tag, our clothes are now sol made in China and Indonesia, or most anywhere but the US. These US designer/companies send the work out to labor intensive sweat shops that pay their workers pennies. There are kids working full time in some countries. They aren't given the opportunity to go to school even if their village may happen to have one. The families need everyone to work to keep a home that many on the decorating forum would not feel fit to camp in, let alone live. Cheap labor begets crappy quality control. I don't think complaining will do much, now if we were to boycott enmasse, then it may be noticed, but how difficult would that be to organize? I absolutely hate to shop and do most of it online. I've noticed my need to return for size being my number one reason for doing so. I've always stuck with the stores that I can confidently order a size 8 and that size 8 will fit. No more. That size 8 may fit like a 10, 12 or 6, totally frustrating. Last bit of rant. I haven't notice the designers lowering the cost of their clothing as it was being assembled in countries where the workers are paid next to nothing. Anyone else notice deep discounts because of not being made in the USA?...See MoreThe police were here again ... for the 2nd time !!
Comments (39)The reason you're responsible is that you are also allowed to remove any dangerous branches or offensive leaf droppers :) A neighbor does not have the ability to go onto your property to trim their trees. Think about it...say you have the neighbor from hell who won't allow you to trim branches, even if they're an obvious risk to their property, do you want to face being sued for their lack of cooperation? I myself would not be excited about allowing just anyone over on my property to trim limbs if my neighbor wanted them trimmed. I'm putting in a complicated (but easier LOL) garden and I don't want some joe blow tree trimmer over on my property with equiptment or to trip over a brick and sue me because he's trimming my neighbor's tree. We require anyone who works on our home or yard to be insured...if the neighbor calls them how would I know? My neighbors are lovely, so it's not an issue, but that does not mean that a new neighbor would be the same. I'm actually trimming limbs off of my neighbors trees right now (legally allowed but we discuss any major changes because we're friends). She's for anything I do because we're improving the property on the line, but still, thank god she's not a busy body who wants to control every branch. I'd trim your "offending" tree if it offended me :) I'm trimming pretty trees now, but while they're pretty, they don't fit the future garden's goals and they block my view. If I had a yard with too much shade and a neighbor's tree was over it...I'd cut the limb off because an ugly stub is in fact less ugly than me sitting in the yard in one square foot of sunshine :oP And as to the lawn guy trimming the tree....don't judge a book by it's cover. My lawn guy trims the trees here. He's an arborist as well as a lawn mower and very qualified to handle something like a limb being cut off. I'm sorry your neighbor sucks. In cases like this there should be a goverment fund that allows us to buy the house of any annoying neighbors to get rid of them :oP I would buy six townhouses in my other neighborhood LOL...See MoreAm I a Crazy Curmudgeon? Kids and Dress Clothes
Comments (11)I know how you feel! Fortunately my kids don't need formal wear often, but I had the hardest time outfitting my son for the few Bar Mitzvahs he attended when he was 13. At the time, I was fortunate that I was able to find almost everything at Old Navy (online -- I just end up ordering a few sizes and then returning what doesn't fit to the store). I still get his black dress pants and white shirts for school band concerts at Old Navy. I'm not investing a lot of money in dress clothes until he stops growing! I think he's almost there, at age 18 and 6'2". Now we're coming up against the same thing with DD, who is 12 and starting to get the Bat Mitzvah invites from classmates at school (we are not Jewish, but we seem to be invited to far more Jewish events than Christian events!). Fortunately, we knew about one that is coming up this weekend all the way back in the spring, so over the summer I bought her two dresses. Both are pretty blue lace dresses, one short sleeved and one 3/4 sleeved, just above knee length. We kept them both because we know she'll be invited to at least a few of these events. One dress was from Boden (kids) catalog and one was from Lands End, believe it or not. One problem we will have is that I think DD is going to top out at 5' tall and she's very slim, too, so she's going to wearing little-kid sizes for a long time yet. I am so glad she's not into the trashy look. She mostly wears skinny jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies. I see what some tweens are wearing around town and cringe. Hello, aren't the mothers still in charge of what clothes girls can buy when they're 12? Okay, my rant is over....See MoreWhoa Minnesota peeps!
