35-year-old Kitchen-Aid mixer died...sob!
Comments (26)The new Hobarts were not as well reviewed in that article. While they said it worked well with anything they threw at it, they added -- "Narrow bowl mouth (the narrowest) made it awkward to add ingredients, and turning off power to change speeds was a painÂbut not as much as transporting the 55-pound beast." And then there is the price tag. I think availability and actual pricing may be a deciding factor as well as features. I'd never seen a Cuisinart mixer before when I got mine. I know I can get service and parts on a KA, but don't on the Cuisinart -- which makes that warranty more important, but what will it mean if you have to put it into play? I still don't know where I could actually go and see the Cuisinart mixer -- maybe Williams Sonoma? Also, the KA pro model is listed at $399 -- more than the Cuisinart, but mine was under $250 at actual purchase. And I had a choice of colors. Bottom line, I don't think you're likely to go wrong with either of them -- and probably not any of the top models. Best bet is to see if one feels more comfortable to you or a color pulls at your heartstrings. Have fun deciding. :-)...See MoreDid anyone purchase a new color KitchenAid stand mixer...
Comments (41)I know! It's difficult! I used to sell Pampered Chef and "earned" my white one for free about 12 years ago. I admit I purchased the yellow today : ) With the $30 back and the free extra attachment, and 5 easy payments plus only $10 shipping I couldn't resist! Plus I used ebates and got 2.5% off that way. There's a free subscription also to Food and Wine Magazine or some other Travel magazine when you do the rebate. Unfortunately there was tax but still was a good deal : ) Good luck!...See MoreKitchenaid Stand Mixer
Comments (31)Mine is also the 4-1/2 qt tilt-back head, in cobalt blue and I can't remember exactly how long I've had it, but several years anyway. Got it for a great price at Tuesday Morning. What I want to add is don't be fooled by the quart thing into thinking you can't mix large quantities unless you buy the mega model. I bake routinely and I have a super cookie cookbook put out by an Amish community. As you can imagine, they don't bother with the batches that make 4 dozen. Those recipes are written in quantities that make 11 to 12 dozen cookies at a crack. Often I will reduce that, but the first time I tried a recipe as written I looked at the bowl and thought this probably will not work. It's appearance is deceiving, because I got it all mixed without a problem. My friend however, felt she needed the 6 quart with lifter, and although she likes it, it was too tall to live on her counter under the upper cabinets so its home is on a shelf in the garage off the kitchen door. I'm sure because of that, it doesn't get used nearly as often as she had imagined. Whatever you get, you will most likely be thrilled with, because the KA truly works very well....See MoreNeed new dishwasher - Bosch 800 series vs Kitchenaid vs Miele?
Comments (28)Most or all miele dealers carry no inventory ! So, being saddled with a non seller isn't really plausible. Mom , it's very surprising that your DISHES weren't dry if you used rinse aid. Things like tupperware lids, sippycup tops, and other plastic items with channels that collect water and have no mass - yes. But those things are often wet out of heated dry makes too. My MIL had a GE with a huge element in the bottom and all the grandkid's stuff was wet after a cycle in that too. Yes, Bosch has cheaper models, but feature for feature (which is hard to align) they are pretty much the same price. Now, factor in that Miele makes all of their units in Germany with astronomical wage scales, ships them here, and pays duty on them, makes me wonder if the Bosch stuff made in rural NC is a tad over priced in comparison ? Still fine machines - and yes, I have a couple of them as well as Mieles....See MoreUser
