Thermostatic and volume control valves on tub/shower

I'm designing my new shower for my bathroom. I wanted to use separate thermostatic and volume controls for the shower faucet. It would be used to control a tub/shower with the diverter on the tub spout. Is this possible to use in this situation? I went to a bath showroom to look at trim and a sales associate told me for a tub/shower I could only use a pressure balancing valve.

I have Grohe that works that way. I suggest you look at Faucets Direct or E-Faucets. You can find the products you want there. They have both thermostatic and pressure balancing. I chose thermostatic.

We also had a Grohe thermostatic set in our old house bath/shower combo.

Getting the tiles off the walls, intact might be an issue. You need to redo the supply plumbing to the new fixture. If you can open the wall from behind you should be able to replumb it without doing damage to the tile wall. You might be able to take the replacement tile from behind the toilet tank and fill it in with a close substitute. This is not a typical install. "Is it possible to set this up with 1 thermostat, 1 volume and some sort of 3 way diverter? !" Yes. A shower valve and a diverter that handles three outputs separately. You're talking about a shower valve with two controls, one for temp and one for pressure . Some are the old style one arm where you twist for temp and the handle pivots up and down for pressure. Others have two handles on the unit (this is what I have). On some of the units with two handles, the second is a built in diverter, not a pressure or temp. control. Shop carefully.

Kohler has a high flow rite temp pressure balancing fall that should work. It does require an extra part K9663 when using a diverter tub spout. It will not work in a tub/shower installation without that part. Here is a link that might be useful: Hi flow valve

Pressure balance is what you want I can’t see a thermostat being good in a guest shower and if you kids are too young to set the water temp they pobably should not be in there alone.You could get these I use them in my guest bath for my grand kids at the sink for washing hands and brushing teeth. The lights tell them when the temp. is right that is when it is green I haven’t need the tub and shower yet.

I had a Delta thermostatic on the tub at my last house, with the diverter on the spout.

Nothing looks worse than a bright red tag on an expensive new nonrefundable valve just installed. Check with inspection. Odds are the clerk's speaking from experience.

Also have the grohe. I was talked into the thermostatic by the sales person. It's okay, but I could have lived without it. She described it as a must have, but I honestly don't see the big whoopee.

Also, I found I couldn't get really cold water or super hot water out of my faucet once it was installed. Maybe this was an installation error, but we like freezing showers in the summer and super hot baths in winter.
