marinating with vacuum sealer
Comments (25)Kris, I confess to having the jar sealers for several years and never used them. Now I'm going crazy with the canning jars because I have a collection of cracked FoodSaver canisters. soften the lids in hot water - I microwave a little water to boiling then drop in the lid dry lid clean jar rim put lid on jar place FoodSaver Jar Sealer over jar remove air with hand held until light turns green OR with FoodSaver unit using hose attachment when fully vacuumed, take the jar sealer off the canning jar put the ring on if you choose to - it's optional...See MoreFoodSaver and other vacuum sealers
Comments (16)Helpful posts. I didn't have a backup when DH brought in some venison. I have an older model that was updated from my first one I got eons ago. I liked the second one because it has an override button (very important in my opinion) so when you have a bag that isn't sealing perfectly or you have delicate items you want sealed but not crushed you can override and still seal. I went and bought the new vertical model (don't remember the #) at Wally World (one of the few stores here unfortunately) I didn't think to try it out ahead of time and when DH got a 200# plus bear .... you guessed it. The new unit didn't work. I got it all unpacked, meat in the bag and NOTHING. Sales pitch was "Just insert the bag and the machine does the rest perfectly!" Problem was the part that pulls the bag in to start the operation didn't work. So out came the limping old one to put the meat up. I wouldn't be without one but I'm a little gun shy now about the newest models. Did you say you have a vertical one Mustang? Maybe I should try one again. It was $150 at Wally World too. Other than the override I prefer less bells and whistles. Less things to go wrong. But I wouldn't be without one. I just wish I could find my jar attachments that disappeared when I moved. I may have to buy another set of those too....See MoreFoodSaver vacuum sealers
Comments (10)FoodSaver is a very good brand at a good price point. My FoodSaver is probably a dozen years old or so, and it's still working (with a little coaxing now and then!). I prefer my type: over the newer model I see in Costco: It seems like the lower profile model is easier to store. Costco often has deals on the FoodSaver and bags. I highly recommend getting one. My frozen foods/meats are protected and I can defrost easily....See MoreFreezer bags or vacuum sealer or what for freezing stuff
Comments (18)I like the Glad zipper bags better than Zip-Locs but my (Glad) stock is several years old so I don't know how the new ones compare to the old. I don't like how Zip-Locs always tear at the seam above the seal. And I love the cool blue color of the Glad freezer bags---which has not one thing to do with performance. The Glad bags are not as widely stocked as Zip-Loc brand so you have to kinda' hunt for them. Forgot to mention that I vac seal only beef and pork. Don't bother with chicken because I have a high turnover with chicken. I buy a lot of those bargain 10# bags of leg quarters because I like dark meat chkn far better than white meat. Separate the leg from the thigh, trim excess skin & fat (which goes into the stock pot or pressure cooker to make broth). I stuff the individual pieces into fold-over top sandwich bags...the bag 'sticks' to the chicken eliminating a lot of the air pockets...then the individual portions are bagged in a gallon size freezer zipper bag. This system works well with chicken breasts, too. I always keep some boneless, skinless breasts for a few recipes where I prefer the white meat and the ease of using boneless pieces....See More- 11 years ago
