Role of weather conditions on coloring of purple/lavender roses?

I have been wondering what weather conditions best bring out the purple or lavender in roses that are supposed to be in that color range? Here are three pictures, all taken within the past week. In order they are Love Song, Royal Amethyst and Melodee Parfumme Being that I've had Love Song the longest, mine always looks Lavender. First year for Melodee Parfumme, looks more Magenta. Royal Amethyst's color is totally what I was expecting. I have noticed on HMF, the color does seem to vary a lot on Melodee Parfumme. Recently we've had cooler than normal temps, lots of rain and humidity.

Lovely! I notice the colors always seem more intense in cool weather.

I find purple roses are more true purple in cool weather and Ebb Tide, at least, fades a lot when temps heat up. Ascot and Twilight Zone don't fade much and I haven't seen any differences in Love song, Angel Face, or Blue Bayou. Big Purple (it's gone) turned magenta in the heat, and Blueberry Hill faded to white (it's gone) in the heat.
Love song in the heat and newly planted. Tough rose, except in cold.

Suggestions for a Lavender/Purple climbing rose bush

A couple of other suggestions: Purple Skyliner is a great rose, very very prolific bloomer, and I think the big clusters of small-ish purple flowers would be lovely with a large-flowered purple clematis. Perennial blue is also beautiful, but for me basically a once-bloomer. I am excited about Quicksilver; have it on order. I also have Climbing Angel Face, but here in zone 6 it needs protection (it does BS, too). For me, Stormy Weather and Night Owl have not really developed into climbers yet, though they may do so more quickly for you in a warmer zone. I like Christopher's suggestion of a yellow; I would add a suggestion for my personal favorite combo - a pink climber with a purple clematis! The only difficulty here is that if you want them to bloom together, you have to choose carefully: I find that a lot of my clematis come into bloom after the main rose flush. There are of course endless beautiful pink climbers to choose from, so I won't even go into varieties! Whatever you decide, best of luck! I'm sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous!

I agree with Jackie's Veilchenblau suggestion. A wonderful rose! I am downsizing my (tiny) garden but adding a few favorites. Veilchenblau is one on the honored few. It's that purple and that good! I also grow Violette which would probably thrive for you, too. She's another multiflora hybrid and really deep, yummy red-purple. In your area, I would give these ramblers partial shade. They should bloom just fine. I'm big on purple gallicas here in Portland, OR, but except for CdR, which you mentioned, I think other classes perform better in OK. Baby Faurax is a nice little mauve polyantha and should do well in your climate. A personal favorite of mine is Basye's Purple, developed by Dr. Robert Basye and much loved by the Texas A&M crowd...and me! Carol

Hi Carol, I'm following you around the forum, I guess. We're the two night owls--but I had a huge nap late in the evening, so now, of course, I'm wide awake. It was a nice day today--92F, actually, and tomorrow will be cooler yet. Then we have a high of 70F. Can you believe that? We're going into the season of up and down weather. But it's still horribly dry with no rain since May. I feel so badly for California and their awful fires. Over 4000 lightening strikes started the whole mess, and since Aug 15, 1.25million acres have burned, plus five deaths and 3500 structures destroyed. As you can guess, I read all this earlier in the day. We have lucked out with just a few smaller fires this season. I agree with your daughter about fall and allergies--they do get better. I suffer from them, too. Anyway, we had a nice BBQ, and my granddaughter Clare was over. She's feeling better, but the covid mess has been very hard on her. She actually had it, and has been over the stuff for several weeks now. What a relief. Have a nice day tomorrow. I don't suppose Canada has a Labor Day holiday tomorrow. Sarah-Ann, your Love Song is, well, Lovely. Don't you love this rose? Too many loves, I guess, but I got a second Love Song this year, "loved" it so much, and now I must find a place to plant it. Diane

I've noticed the same with 'Ebb Tide'; its a red violet for me and not that dramatic purple all over the internet.

Thanks everyone. Diane, love your picture of Love Song, it's gorgeous! Love Song is a remarkable rose, IMHO. When I look at Melpdee Parfumme, it seems to look more purple as it ages, but then when I photograph it, it still looks magenta! I still think it is a lovely rose and has a nice fragrance, just want the purple to be more prominent.

The purple shows in Fragrant Plum. I've noticed that Beth who has so many varieties of roses and posts all the beautiful pictures has some of the most beautiful roses in this color class, including this variety. Some of hers are breathtaking!
