Comments (6)When I called Salon Blue Ridge about DeDietrich, hoping to find zoneless, they told me they only sold a couple of basic models, though direct import from Europe is possible. But that wouldn't help the ridge/lip thing. It is possible to get hot spots on induction, even though it's possible to warm up all of a pan that is highly compatible (i.e., lots of iron). Some of it is going to be trial and error to find what temperatures work for you and how they affect your particular pans. Some people have some success using an oblong grill/griddle with a shallow lip on induction. This may depend on the sensitivity of the unit. Some units specifically say they will work up to 1/4" above the surface. The question is really whether the pot detector will detect your griddle pan. Comments (14)Thank you to all! I also did an web search last night and discovered that cracking cast iron isn't all that uncommon - mostly when heat and cold are too quickly applied. So I will pre-heat more slowly in the future. I cook a lot - and I'm still getting used to cooking with induction. Boiling water - as the expression goes - is the best and easiest. Sauteeing, I have discovered, has a learning curve, depending on the pan (I have several, some old LeCrueset, some expensive DeMeyere, some cheap made-for-induction). The best are enameled cast iron, i.e. LeCrueset or Descoware. I had purchased an inexpensive griddle which I ended up throwing away - it buzzed, it burned food, it was hard to clean. I replaced it with the cast iron griddle, which arrived in the mail poorly packed, with a chip on the rim. I should have sent it back - it was not inexpensive - but I figured it was still cooking-worthy and return shipping was a fortune. That chip on the rim may have compromised the pan enough to crack it. It was also too large for the hob - 14" on a 12" circle. That may have contributed to the problem. The next one I buy - I haven't given up - will be smaller. I will pre-heat it more slowly. On my old electric stove, I set my former non-stick griddle (not induction compatible, so I gave it away) on the high setting, let it heat up, turned down the heat, and made perfect pancakes every time. Comments (18)Melis - that is one beautiful Staub! Why don't you use it? Mine Staub is a basic round with a standard lid but I have a LC oval. Scrappy - as others have said - the oval works just fine. I have used mine on my Wolfie and it worked great. I braised with it and even used as a slow cooker on my induction. One time, I was using as a slow cooker but was chicken to leave it alone while I ran to the store, so I popped it into my speed oven on high warm and found out I have another option for a slow cooker....See MoreKohler cast iron shower pan and frameless sliding shower door-doable?
Comments (10)Enduring- thanks for responding. I had seen your shower- it turned out just beautiful. I wasn't sure if in your research you'd explored a sliding glass door or not. To answer your questions. One end of the shower is on an exterior brick wall. The other is flanked by a custom linen closet surrounded by tile with the edges grouted. It's not coming out. If I had no other choice but to do doors, I'm pretty sure I'd have to remove tile on one or both ends and add the blocking- not something I'd like to do if I can avoid it. Likely I'd just have one door and a fixed panel on the other- I'm pretty sure the toilet clearance wouldn't let me do two doors like you have. Though I see your point about having a fixed panel- I can't drill into the shower pan so that wouldn't work either. Hopefully some of the glass guys can give me their opinion about using epoxy to secure clips on the bottom. Thanks again for your help- much appreciated. Lisa...See Moreweedmeister
