do coffee grounds make tomatoes taste bitter?
Comments (7)I have a compost-tumbler outside the back door for kitchen waste, and most of what goes in it is coffee grounds, in addition to eggshells, shrimp shells, citrus rinds and anything my dogs or chickens can't eat (which ain't much). All that compost goes to the tomatoes, so I can definitively say that no, coffee grounds don't make tomatoes bitter. Hopefully your friend will try a different variety, Early Girl just isn't that tasty, period....See MoreOT: Fessin up on the Stale Coffee controversy

Comments (13)my daughter and i did alot of research about a week ago online. the general thing we noticed was it depends on a couple things. in the end we came to the conclusion that starbucks coffee grounds, (they give away the used for free just ask for it) are PH 5. how ever i can't say all coffee is the same. with that said if you are putting coffee straight from a new can of coffee into your bin thats more acidic. the acid is in your cup of coffee not as much is in your already used coffee grounds. yes they do heat a bin fast and hot!! i am trying my own experiment. i have a 4'x4'x4' wood bin, it sits in my back yard. we do get cold weather here in upstate ny. i am using alot of used coffee grounds, one bail of straw, alot of shredded leaves, newspaper, cardboard (courigated and egg cartons, drink tray), as well as kitchen scraps as much as i can get, i also begg my friends, relatives, neighbors. my goal is to keep my bin from freezing using no man made heat. so far i have a 20 to 30 degree temp warmer inside my bin from out side temps. so far so good, the bad weather still ahead. enjoy your worms, hope i have helped at least some. good luck all!...See MoreI use watered down stale coffee to water blueberry plants, is this OK?
Comments (2)Robin it depends on what your starting ph was. I wouldn't expect this to be enough since Blueberries like an acidic soil. I use coffee grounds and Aluminum sulfate I need to do another ph test to see how well the ph has been decreased. Best to test the soil rather than guess what you've done has been enough. That being said if you have a wonderful harvest you must being doing something right....See Moredcarch7 d c f l a s h 7 @ y a h o o . c o m
