Four square farmhouse addition
Comments (5)This is what I've been playing around with online. Maybe to help you get an idea of what I'm talking about. Walls C and D are the existing walls for our dining room. Our current kitchen is wall A but ends at wall D. We're hoping by adding the 20 feet off the back we can achieve somewhat of an open floor plan. But I'm having trouble visualize it all. And confused about how to use the space in the kitchen effectively. Anyways, if anyone has ideas or has seen something similar could you point me in that direction? Also this is using IKEAs kitchen design software. Does anyone know of another user friendly floor plan software online? That will let you do more with other furniture?...See MoreExterior facelift - Modern Farmhouse
Comments (3)These are just random ideas coming to me as I look at the photo. The house is quite nice by the way. Painting the exterior some shade of white might update the house's look. It looks like the standing seam metal porch roof needs painting too - perhaps a cool grey color. The porch columns seem undersized. Replacing those with square columns with more heft seems logical. The railing is rather simple which would fit with a more modern look. I would change the color of the shutters from green to perhaps a grey color (a shade or two darker) than the standing seam metal roof and would possibly remove them altogether from the upper floor. Having the windows painted a dark, charcoal grey would provide some contrast and modernity. Lastly I might change the diamond shaped vent in the front gable to another shape - maybe circular with louvers. Good luck!...See MoreA Survey of Farmhouse Styles
Comments (27)And, because where you have farm houses, you have farm children, and therefore schools... Some one room schoolhouses from the same area This one has been purchases by the local hysterical, er, historical society. The plaque gives dates of establishment, when THIS building was erected, when it closed, etc. This one is the same brick style as many of the homes around it. The little "shed" entrance is a later (rather awful) addition. This one belongs to a local boy scout troop. Finally, this one was a private residence for a while. Then it was bought up by another local history group and restored pretty thoroughly:...See MoreLooking for suggestions and recommendations on a farmhouse addition
Comments (22)well I drove all day from Virginia to NY and I will hopefully get to do another inspection of the property, way more thorough, without the kids running around, as I am up here by myself, within the next week or so. it's funny that you mention bodies buried in the basement, our current house in Virginia has two people buried in our front yard. When we closed on our house in VA, we had to sign a waiver, allowing family members of the two deceased, to come visit and lay flowers if they desired. The previous owner traced their heritage, they were buried in the early 1800's, were only children, had no children of their own, as they both passed away at an early age, so basically their family tree ended. How the developers were allowed to build a house, or even several house, less than 15 feet away from my front door is beyond me. I will have more details of my current prospect farmhouse within the next week or so. I appreciate all the responses....See Morenitrolove81
