Love the living room with the stone walls, the office/library/den, the deck, and the patio. Not a fan of the kitchen. The other rooms are okay and I could certainly live there quite easily, I think. It seems that some parts blended the modern aesthetic wonderfully without completely losing a feel for the place. Other parts, not so much.

Interesting mix of a brownstone and loft. It also seems very light and bright for a row house ... or did they use photoshop?

I'm not a fan of the kitchen as well, but regardless the home looks and feels like a lived in and appreciated home. I have had to inspect a lot of abandoned homes and it was always so sad to see them vacant, dilapidated and/or uncared for. I really feel happy when afterwards, I drive past one that's been bought and brought back to life.

I love the contrast from the outside to the inside. Love the entry overlooking that gorgeous living room-- I would love to see the view from the front door. Very cool house. I like almost everything as is. It has aged very well for being a 70's renovation. The roof deck and terrace are awesome.

The kitchen and the baths are oriented off-axis at an angle to the house. There are a few reasons for this. As large as these houses are, they are very long and narrow, about 16 feet wide partway back and 12-13 the rest of the way back. The original plan would've had dark narrow hallways the length of the house. (The buildings I lived in had a 50 foot hallway on the first floors with a door at one end and maybe a window at the back somewhere)

The off axis allows for a light well down the middle of the house and relates the kitchen and baths to the rooms in front and the rooms in back while allowing them to be a bit wider without squeezing the other circulation between front and back into a narrow hallway.

There were no lights on in the house, it was overcast, and had actually rained a bit on our walk there, and the house was very light on the inside.

The kitchen doesn't really meet today's criteria, but I think it looks better in person. I think it could be reworked a bit even in the uneven quadrangle shape. To put this in context, kitchens in these houses were often relegated to the very back wing along and behind the stairs, or put in the basement.

This has relatively direct access to the hallway, the dining room and the sunken living room, down one part of that stairwell at the end of the sunken LR.

If you look at the LR picture toward those steps, the same steps angle off to the formal entry from the hall and the narrow passage against the wall goes into the kitchen, and the staircase is intersected by a projecting wall of the kitchen. It's kind of ingenious.

I like it - I could totally live there while changing very little, if anything really.

I love the living room and library. Not so much the kitchen, but they appear to have worked with the available space and have some otherwise large rooms.

I like the volume they gathered by taking out part of the floor to create a double-height living room. In contemporary spec houses, I'm not a fan of double-height rooms, but the concept makes so much sense in this house. I applaud the architect/interior designer who came up with the revised floor plan. They made the house quite livable.

Here is what you would have typically been facing in an intact building (this was not) or putting back if you wanted to recreate: A tall narrowish hallway with a narrow front parlor to one side, with a projecting chimney breast. (The firebox and mantel were removed in the picture below, probably in the Victorian era)

I think this house is brilliant. I even find the kitchen very appealing---despite a probably necessary quirky layout. I'm drawn to the tile backsplash and surprisingly, even the grey laminate cabinets. Thanks for sharing!
