Salmon is red, violets are blue, Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

For Mother's Day,

Foraged some violets from the garden. Sauteed them to go with salmon.

Foraged from my backyard some ramps to go with turkey meat balls.

Foraged some mallow plants to go with SV pork chops.

Nice. We don't have real violets. Aren't they a little perfumy?

What's on top of the meatballs? I'm sure it isn't fudge, which is what it looks like. It has too much body to be a balsamic reduction. It doesn't seem gel-ish enough to be a chilled gravy or aspic. It looks like fudge! Maybe some kind of very thick barbecue sauce?

You probably saved the order somewhere - so you can check everything. My first take was - it is not it - but the flowers are shaped very similar - distinct pansies on Xlong bloom stalks - and some search showed that some growers have AFA with similar variegation pattern - I am thinking it is probably a sport, not a mislabeled plant. If you think that all initial wild species are blue - it should be something in the genes left from them to surface. The regular AFA has thin flimsy leaves, you put the leaf down - it doesn't give the babies easily - you have more die-outs than with anything else. I grow it for 5 years - and it doesn't want to give me 3 crowns, only 2 and it stays small. Some varieties are just less strong than others. Irina

I fully agree that the digital camera sees colors differently. I think it has x-ray eyes. When I photograph my layered paintings, I find that the camera often sees through the top layer into something beneath that color. Very annoying. This is one of the reasons why juried art shows do not accept submissions made with a digital camera. They want slides, which is expensive and a big bother, although I hear that they're about to relent on that issue while reserving the right to reject an original that is far removed from the electronic version. Having said that, with shots for a forum such as this, you ought to be able to tweak your photos before saving them. I saved the following to my computer...it's the Mercury Glass formula. I forget who originally posted this, but here you go. It definitely is a keeper. I plan on painting our spare/guest room with it this coming fall. "Martha Stewart's "Mercury Glass" paint color - Sears paint That is the old line from Sears & K-mart. It is not a part of the Lowes line. Here is the formula for Mercury Glass (love this color!). I used it in a HW in an old house that DH & I lived in pre-digital camera. I wanted to try it recently in current home & had Sears Hardware mix a qt. for me even though it was discontinued (our Sears has a super paint guy that remembers me from always getting MS paint) In my upstairs HW that is very light filled it is almost imperceptible and in the downstairs part of the HW it is very dark. Upstairs swatch reads blue, downstairs more purple. I still want to find a place for it somewhere. Here's the qt. formulation as handwritten on the can (no clue if it will help): 8946 - 0.03 8943 - 0.005 Base - 97864

I find that often a sporting plant continues to sport - and then you have something variably tie dyed. Great you have the second one blooming true.

Wonderful.

I love foraging

The grandkids and I "forage" in the front yard every spring. We've made violet jelly, dandelion jelly (too earthy), and lilac jelly (no color or taste).

Now, the woods!

Thank you! The sauce on the meatballs is black garlic /mayo sauce.

LOL, Islay, now all I can think about is slugs and violets!

I do have some violets growing in the yard but they are just so pretty that I seldom think of eating them...

I need to get back out and snap the asparagus and see if I can find any of the ever elusive morels. I've found none yet this year, but haven't spent a lot of time in the woods.

My granny used to love crystalised violets. The colour of that jam is so pretty.

I thought of slugs because Dcarch was talking of foraging and here, people love foraging for snails...... not my cup of tea either.

Usually, Dcarch, your food looks wonderful and I would never think of slugs LOL
