My guess is "Personal Preference"? I quit using the Windows "My Document" folder long ago because I got the feeling it wasn't really "My(mine)" at all. For instance, when I navigate to my Win7 "Documents" I find it's pretty much trashed and I haven't even used it very much. There's a folder named "Adobe", which I didn't put there, nor would I have. A folder called "Alcohol 120%", which I didn't put there. There's a "Games" folder, which I don't play, and didn't put there. There's links to "My Music", which I don't use, "My Pictures", which I don't use, "My Videos", which I don't use. There's a "OneNote Notebooks" folder, which I don't use, forgot it was even installed. A "Stream Transport" folder containing a settings file, don't ask me. :) And a few other things that I wouldn't want cluttering up my documents folder if it was really mine. So it's not. Personally, I always partition a drive just for data and create my own folders for documents, music, video, etc. That way it doesn't get trashed up... unless it's by me. I do make use of my Desktop though. Usually not for long term storage, but for anything I'm working on, need to do more work someday, or want right there in front of me because I use it often. I identify with your predecessor but truthfully, I would say there's no right place, no wrong place, put them where you're used to having them, and can find them quickly and easily. Make them "YOUR" documents. Unless of course your boss says otherwise. :) Just my opinion though, based on my personal quirks. Edit: Is sharing involved? "Hope more folks who were thinking about using big Blue or Orange read this and save themselves the heartache." The problem is that the installers are 'buying work' from the big box places. They are often inexperienced and hungry for work. It can lead to real disasters. Even what appear to be the same fixtures from a 'name brand' often have subtle changes to meet the desired price point. Add to that less than knowledgeable installers and things can easily get out of control.

Love those views and my gosh you must change those windows for the sake of the views!!! New double pane windows are today 1000 times better that what you have in place. Our house, in the SF Bay Area facing SW, had EXACTLY the same problems you have now. We had Aluminum double pane "builder grade" and in the summer, the glare was blinding and they transmitted heat into the house. In the winter, it was cold and produced condensation like crazy on high humidity days. We are on a hillside with spectacular valley views but the drapes were always drawn. What a waste. After switching to new windows 4 years ago, the change is spectacular, literally. New double pane now offers a spectrrally selective coating known as Low-E. There is Low-E II, 3 and up to 4 now. They eliminate glare, keep out UV rays, cut down heat transmission. Better windows also offer Argon gas between the pane to further reduce heat transmission into and out of the house. Low-E II (3 or 4) plus Argon gas keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer and it gives you spectacular views out your windows. You may find that interior window treatment is now optional and can simply rely on the exterior solar shades to cut out the setting sun's direct rays into the house. There are fiberglass windows, fiberglass exterior and wood (paint or stain) interior windows, aluminum clad exterior and wood interior windows and vinyl windows. We have had very good experience buying Marvin, Andersen and Milgard. There are others (Pella, Kolbe-Kolbe, Loewen, etc) but I am only familiar with these three and they have all worked well for our homes over many years. You will not regret one bit swithing to new low-E II and argon filled double pane. Your husband will be shocked by the spectacular glare-less views! Geat ready to Enjoy!

Hi Shannon, To get the desired look, for the look you are trying to achieve, I would recommend the following based on our twelve years as a Windsor distributor/installer: 1) Windsor Legend double-hung windows with exterior moulding factory applied. This will give you the set-back look you are desiring and still allows the Hardie planks to "dive in" to the side of the window trim. We completed numerous homes, that were a farmhouse architectural typology, in the South Carolina Low Country as well as Savannah, GA area with the Windsor Legend series . 2) Windsor Next Dimension classic series with nail fin and no brickmould attached. You will still need to have the window recessed so it is set back, then have PVC exterior trim applied so the Hardie plank "dives in" to the window trim. If you are using 2 x 4 exterior walls, the builder will have to fur-out the inside of the window wall so the drywall and interior window trim can be applied appropriately. Hope this helps! Patrick
