'Dutch door' suppliers
Comments (10)Hi, Judy. They aren't really that hard to find, but they also aren't inexpensive. Vintage Doors makes them: http://www.dutchdoorusa.com/ As does Sun Mountain: https://www.sunmountaindoor.com/application/wood-dutch-doors/ Rustica: https://rustica.com/lakehouse-6-dutch/ Here is a blog post from someone who installed 2: https://theinspiredroom.net/2017/06/08/dutch-doors-sources-faq/ And one from a window/door company explaining why you might not want one: https://www.4feldco.com/articles/exterior-dutch-door/ I'd probably use caution having a stock door turned into a Dutch door for an exterior use. I'm guessing that's going to void the warranty. :-) Also think carefully about your environment and where on the house you want it to go before you decide it's a good choice. I really wanted one, too, but my builder sort of talked me out of it. My climate is pretty severe, winter and summer. And mosquitoes are our state bird. Screens are a must. We opted to maintain a good seal on the exterior with standard doors, and save the Dutch door for the pantry. After all, it doesn't do a lot of good to build a super tight house - and finish it with a door that leaks like a sieve....See MorePetmate double door or Aran 3 double door pet carrier for cats?
Comments (2)Im sorry but I can't help you with this. I have just resigned myself to the fact that it will be a fight to stuff my older cat in her carrier every time we go to the vet. I usually sneak the carrier into the bathroom and then grab her and get in there, shut the door and try to keep her legs close to her body as we stuff her in. This is a two man job. I dont think even a two door would help in her case. With the kittens, I kept the carrier in plain view for a long time, they used it as a play space and do not regard it with fear and loathing. Going to the vet is easy but they are only a year and a half so perhaps havent yet built up the association. Also they dont seem to mind the vet as they get treats after shots. The older cat has to go to the vet much more regularly to be monitored, and has blood taken and is prodded and poked so I do not blame her at all. Fortunately she just freezes in fear on the vet table and is quite easy to treat when she is there. But I still feel bad for her....See MoreBefore and after !!
Comments (29)arapaho, we are looking for new door hardware now. We just reused the old that we had in the meantime. We'll do something in an antique black to play off the light fixture. xantippe, we live in a town that starts with an M in Ohio. malhgold, the tassel paint is from Sherwin Williams. I tried to search image links of that color and found very little on the web. Makes it that much more unique I guess! We were absolutely going for the stark simple elegant lines of the classic New England look while still taking into consideration the fact that we were using modern building materials. There is just such a simplicity to the way of life back then that appeals to me and I was happy to pay homage to it in our home. It feels very peaceful to me and that was the look we were after. We hope our family, friends and guests get the same feeling when they visit....See MoreDutch Doors: What old tv show had one?
Comments (19)"safe tv" yep! Father Knows Best gets a lot of flak for being goody-2-shoes & paternalistic, but it did, very mildly, address some things that weren't even recognized as issues at the time. (This show came on late at night for a while, too!) In one episode, if I remember correctly, the gardener, Frank, won an essay contest when he wrote about what it meant to him to be a citizen of Springfield. The winning writer was to read his essay at the Fourth of July celebration... but when the town fathers found out that "Frank" was Hispanic, & that he talked with a very strong accent, they went nuts. Of course, Jim reasoned with them, spoke intelligently yet passionately about what it actually does mean to belong in Springfield, & Frank read his essay....See More- 9 years ago
