Didn't "I Love Lucy" have one when they moved to Connecticut? I could be way off on that, though.

George and Gracie did have one before they moved to an apartment.

I was going to say Mr. Ed too!

My mother had one, but she wasn't on TV! It was nice in the summer to let air in but have some security with the bottom section closed.

I'm glad that George & Gracie had a Dutch door...
maybe it's the neighborliness of it.
Blanche & George always came to the back / kitchen door.

I liked that show when I was little, & about a year ago, I sometimes saw it around 2 AM.

When I was little, I always hoped George wouldn't "catch" Gracie.

To my relief, everything always worked out perfectly!

When I watched it last year, I was touched by the couple's closeness, their fondness for each other.

George always knew Gracie was up to something, & although he always figured it out, he always somehow got around letting her know that he knew.

He loved that Gracie.

& I loved the tv that he had in his study, where he could watch what was going on elsewhere in the show.

Does Mr Ed count?

It does seem like Fred (in his bib overalls) & Ethel would come to the kitchen door at Lucy's Connecticut house.

Did we ever see where the Mertzes lived in Connecticut?

Millie & Jerry lived next door to Rob & Laura, so it seems only logical that they would have come to the back or kitchen door...

Today, it seems like all the kitchen doors open into attached garages & all the back doors are inside the fenced, gated, locked back yards!

The only "back door" people I know are the ones who live in old houses or who leave their garage doors open for friends & neighbors.

Sylvia: The Mertzes lived in the Ricardos guest house when they moved to Connecticut. They showed the inside of it a few times. (Can you tell I watch a lot of the old shows? I call it SafeTV.)

Father Knows Best gets a lot of flak for being goody-2-shoes & paternalistic, but it did, very mildly, address some things that weren't even recognized as issues at the time.

(This show came on late at night for a while, too!)

In one episode, if I remember correctly, the gardener, Frank, won an essay contest when he wrote about what it meant to him to be a citizen of Springfield.
The winning writer was to read his essay at the Fourth of July celebration...
but when the town fathers found out that "Frank" was Hispanic, & that he talked with a very strong accent, they went nuts.

Of course, Jim reasoned with them, spoke intelligently yet passionately about what it actually does mean to belong in Springfield, & Frank read his essay.

My daughter and her family rented a house in Holland MI and the one bedroom had a Dutch door. I like to tell the story of going to Springfield IL when I was about 5 I think. Abraham Lincoln's loghouse had one. I still remember that after 58 years. I really must have been awed by it.

We had one at our house in Thiensville WI, it went from the kitchen to a raised deck that enclosed on 2 sides by the garage and the house. It was the perfect place to sunbathe. The top half was open a lot, Mum could sit out there and still hear us in the house.

I think there was one on the Dick Vandyke show.

I had one so the dogs would not feel so shut in when they went to bed in the utility room.

They had one in the movie Funny Farm with Chevy Chase. I loved the house in that movie.

I had no idea so many tv shows & movies featured Dutch doors!
