Remodeling is making me stupid

I came back to the house after the electricians had left for the day
to find that the can lights were on but the switch had been removed in
preparation for other work. Huh, so how do I turn off the lights?

I called my GC for help. He said, "The switch by the dining room door works."

Oh, d'oh! I knew that we had a switch over there - been there for 21
yrs - but we so rarely use it that I had completely forgotten about it.

I flipped the switch and whadya know, I was able to turn the lights off.

*facepalm*

At least,he didn't play a trick on ya and tell you to flip the breaker...turning off ALL the power to the kitchen (and in my house, most of the first floor as wel).

NHB: The nerve of that woman. I cannot believe it! My kids have done a few garage sales too and it's amazing how many people like to take advantage of kids. I had people trying to make all kinds of deals with my kids and I finally had to tell a few people that they had priced things to sell (like 25 cents or $1 per item). It's why I mostly donate stuff to charity or resell myself on CL. Yesterday, I had arranged for a charity to pick up some stuff on my curb. They said to put out at 7AM with a tag on it which I did and by the time they arrived, my stuff was all taken. DH said probably they needed it, but still I felt like the stuff was stolen as it was not put out with a "free" sign on it, but a tag for a cancer charity and I felt just terrible when the truck arrived and my stuff was all gone. :( Stinkers!

Sure! (And you have all my sympathy, even though I'm smiling, too!) Did that with the first quilt I made using batiks. I was so taken with the black fabric with subdued multicolored animals and plants on it that I planned a whole queen-sized batik quilt in the 9-4 pattern so the pictures in the dark squares would be preserved, like an I-Spy, and I cut out all the pieces in advance. Well, not only did I get a good way into it before realizing that it was going to look awful in a large quilt, I kept getting the pictures upside-down or the larger blocks sewn into the wrong place (I was trying to balance the various pictures so the same ones didn't occur right next to each other.) When I decided to cut it down to a lap quilt, entire blocks had to be moved or eliminated because of this picture-balancing. And when the whole thing was done, I still didn't like it very much. Sometimes I keep it in the trunk of my car. Some of the blocks that I couldn't use in the quilt I saved for small bags. There they look much better. You might use some of yours for bags or pillows and you might love them there. I have also used small log-cabin blocks to make potholders and chair cushions.

My parents got sick from my eating half cooked chicken that an elderly relative "sort of cooked". Both ended up in the hospital. The relative's response was "oh I thought the chicken smelled a little funny".... we all just slapped ourselves on the forehead. We all still eat this relative's cooking, but the preparation is watched more closely and she is lovingly picked on occasionally. Things like this happen to be best cooks.... let your sisters know just so everyone knows what is going on. Your sister with the health issues may want to let her MD know. Depending on what was wrong with her, the MD might want to see here or might just tell her to call if she noticed a problem. I would eat your dessert (but then I still lick brownie and cake batter from the bowl and both have raw eggs!)

And the GC said nothing else? No smart remark, no little laugh, or perhaps a smile in his reply?
Hopefully that's the only little glitch you have. if it can be called that.

Hey, now, LL, don't go raining on my excuse! lol

I'm sure he had a good ol' chuckle over it, blfenton. And that's quite okay. He has a great sense of humor, which is one of the many reasons why we're so glad to be working with him.

There have been a few "this is what's planned but it can't be done that way because of..." moments but so far, they have been relatively few (thank goodness!) and I seem to be managing the on-the-spot decisions well enough. Or at least none of them have come back to haunt me yet. I'm a horrible second guesser of myself so that's bound to happen. DH has no qualms. He said he has absolute faith in my decisions. Foolish, foolish man. = )

Always happy to pass along giggles. I didn't want to be the only one laughing at myself.

LOL! Yep same thing happened to me. My husband (my GC) had just connected my new kitchen light switches a little different then I was used to.

That evening, I started cooking dinner. It was getting dark, so I tried the switch. Nothing happens. I say to myself...Hmmm, that's weird. Something must have tripped the breaker. Tried them again.... Yes I really did flip em all on, off, on, off....like that was going to work!

Now understand, I had been living in construction zone for like a year at that point. I think, oh well DH will be home any minute. I will just wait for him to deal with it.

Hubby gets home, walks in, and just as I was about to say...hey something is wrong with the electrical, he flips the switches. Boom, all the lights come on.

Yeah, I felt pretty stupid.... I forgot I had him switch the kitchen and living room switches. Duh! We laughed pretty hard on that one! :-D

What about remodel planning? I fretted and fretted over what we were going to do for drinking water. I thought we had an old Brita pitcher, but I couldn't find it. I didn't want to buy another just for the remodel... my sil was planning on buying a new one and I was coordinating with her to get one she liked etc... Demo day comes before I pick up the new pitcher... and my ds walks into the mudroom and gets water from the fridge in there. DUH! (I never use that water, so I had completely forgotten we had water in our extra fridge.)

LOL, rebunky and lawjedi (love your screen name)! Glad to know that my bonehead move has me in good company.

My GC and I had a good laugh about it today.

mimipadv, I think I'm going to draw up a "road map" for DH and DS2 (DS1 no longer at home) so that they can find things but also so that when they empty the DW, things go back where they're supposed to go.
