Cloth on large coffee table?
Comments (5)What should be in the tray? Well, what do you use the room for? When you're in there, what are you usually doing? Reading? Then maybe a small reading journal (listing books you want to read or have read, if you have trouble keeping track, like me), reading glasses if you need them, Post-Its. Or: a few magazines, small notepad/pen if there's a phone in that room, a small tube of hand cream. Now those are in the "usefuls" department. You can create a "tablescape" kind of thing by using, say, a collection of flat-backed paperweights ("millefleur" type comes to mind -- google it), the little glass pebbles that have interesting sayings carved into them (like "Simplify"). Maybe you've collected small toys like mini Rubik's Cubes over the years--hey, I'm just trying to get your imagination going!--put them in there to play with. Maybe a bundle of dried flowers (like lavender)? For the cloth topper itself: Find a fabric store and wander around the decorative cloth section (where they have the extra-long bolts for curtains, upholstery) and the quilting fabric section. Or if you like lacy stuff, you'll probably find that. There are many interesting patterns. You can easily hem the edges either with hand-stitching or an iron-on fusible webbing (just tell a clerk what you are planning and he/she will know what you need)....See MoreHow large of a table for my dining space?
Comments (1)I would get some painter's tape and tape both sizes out on the floor. If they both seem to work, next step would be big cardboard boxes inside the taped off space so you get a real feel for how much space you will have left....See MoreWhat size coffee table to I put between 2 large sofas?
Comments (6)Have you considered switching the right-hand couch with the chairs? That would make for much more comfortable TV viewing and decrease the blocking of the larg window (or patio doors), letting you get more of the view and light. Then a substantial end table in the corner between the couches could also have a reading lamp, and you might have space for a small table between the two chairs too....See MoreReplacing coffee table with large ottoman
Comments (34)Love the Kilim style! Perhaps keep watch on your local Craigslist for a good price on a coffee table that is the right size/shape and has nice legs and convert it to an ottoman. Cheap table...nice fabric :). I am sitting here looking at my ugly orange oak coffee table, almost the size of a small dining table, and imagining turning it into a beautiful ottoman. But, I have no skills! When I mention getting a new table, my now sixteen year old GD says “You can’t get rid of that table. What is C (the 4 year old GD) going to play board games and Old Maid and Checkers on with Papaw?”...See MoreMomof5x
