is my aloe vera not doing well?

their color is looking different and they're opening up a lot. Is that normal. They're also being a bit pushy to my succulents with it (not too sure what they are). will they be ok? Or do I need to do some rearranging?

The Aloe plant will take over all available space in time. Never put it in with anything else you care about.

They may need more light. And yes they'll crowd out everything else. Your other succulents definitely need better light. Also, neither one needs much water at all, so make sure you let them dry out between watering.

A pic could help for an with an over all view and the soil discription as you can best discribe. For now the browning and discoloration sounds like the crown of your Aloe had gotten to wet. It sits just under a soil line and could rot if left in a soil thats to wet for to long. Uncertain if it is crown rot and or white fly or fungus (all unknown) would prompt me to remove what ever plant is left from the pot and bare root it leaving crown and roots exposed on news paper or in a cardbord box while composing a different soil.

They'll grow as fast or as slow as you allow them to. If you want the plant narrower, cut the bottom-most leaves (if that's something you don't find aesthetically displeasing. A mature Aloe vera will be about 3' tall and about as wide. If you want it to grow smaller, I'd suggest getting rid of it and getting a miniature aloe. You could start over with the pup, which is fine, since you already know what the end result will be (it will get too large and you'll have to do the same thing) but you'll have the fun of growing them up (and perhaps giving the mature one to a friend who does have the space).

Those are some great looking plants randy. This is a very old post. Since then, my big aloe plant got worse and worse. It started losing leaves, and the black spots have spread everywhere except for the pups and a few leaves in the middle. I watered very little, much less than I used to, which was only once a week... Unfortunately that did not help and I was forced to get rid of the plant, and I planted a new one from a pup I had left. This new plant is growing extremely slowly, it's very frail and pale. The leaves are very thin and look like they are half dried out or even dead. Only a few leaves in the middle are nice and healthy. I am only watering a little bit once in every two weeks since it's the winter, but there is just no positive change. Well at least the plant is not dying. It's just sort of staying in this miserable state without any change for better or worse.

I would worry about them dying too, but look at the dates of the posts: first one is June 16th, so photo was taken no later than that date. Second post is today-August 4th. So I am thinking that if they didn't die in about 6 weeks or longer, and had been sitting in same location they must be acclimitized well...of course that is just the way I think :) and could be very wrong! And greening of the plants on left suggest to me that even little bit of shade and little more water (drops from window AC units) makes quite a difference

lets back up a moment and get a perspective. How long has this plant been doing strange things. Have you re-potted it recently? How much water does it get? Does it drain
well? How much Light? There are lots of factors that could cause a plant to do strange things.
2 winters ago I had an Aloe "deflate" on me, I think it was a water issue.
The other plant looks like an echeveria and maybe the third one is too. They all take similar
light water and temperature.

I water about once a week. Maybe a week and a half. it's starting to warm up more. they've been here about five weeks. this is a photo from when they were potted. I had no idea about aloe taking over. I'll have to repot them.

be careful to acclimate them to stronger light, plants burn like we do.

I pulled them out from the porch a bit. I didn't want to take them out too far in case it rains. They get lots of indirect sunlight, but not long of direct. I'd say maybe two hours at sunset.
