Tile guys - how to tile the end of the knee wall? How to top it?
Comments (5)My knee wall issue is taken care of with mitered tiles on the outside portion butting up to mitered tiles on each side. (so it fits like a picture frame). I don't know why you couldn't do the same, and on every other row have a split tile with a center line (the stacked look). The miter is cut on site, and you need to use some very good grout to make those edges strong but the look is good. My tile is travertine on this wall, but I'm doing the same on the tub surround with my italian ceramic tile (didn't offer a bullnose edge) so I don't see that it would be a problem with your tiles...Bill or Mongo can beat me up for that statement if it's incorrect :) I'm just telling you what we're going to be doing with both ceramics and stone. Comments (19)"I guess i HAVE been gone for a while! " @ BIll you must have been gone when the OP stated he used mastic. Oh buddy, after what 58 years in the trade, but hey you got 5 likes out of the deal so there is that :):) I know no other way to reason then to tell OP to tear it out now and bite the bullet even if thats NOT PC here on hooz. from OP: "We bought the water sealant and mastic as recommended by the person at Lowe's. What problems will arise with this application? " "I just don't want mold problems"...See MoreCorner of shower tile sticking up. Ouch.
Comments (7)Just FYI, the technical term you are talking about is lippage, so you can sound informed when you talk to your contractor. It may be possible for them to chisel out and replace with a new tile without disturbing the waterproofing, but that is a bit tricky and depends on what WP method was used. I think having them protect adjacent tiles and dremel down is a good first try....See MoreUser
